Speed Question

[Air France]

Today i just did a flight from LFPG to KMIA with the posky Air France A340-300 and when i was flying at 34,000FT my speed would
change from time to time. I would go at like 470KT and then slow down to 375KT and then up to like 425KT ect.... I have it on Autothrottle at mach .81

Please tell me if this is normal.

First, can you be a little more specific? Are you talking about ground speed, indicated airspeed, or true airspeed?

I would say it's the changing wind that is affecting your speed.

are you using real weather, activesky, or self configured weather? are you using fsuipc? like runibl said could just be wind.

Are you using wind smoothing in ASV? If not, please enable it in the options.
Also, if you have a registered copy of FSUIPC (I think it is only possible with the registered copy) then set the smoothing option to 1, it prevents
most (but not all) overspeeding due to windshifts

Our GS in reality moves around quite a bit (while maintaining the same IAS or mach). Changing winds do a number on aircraft speed!
