[RW question] cessna 152....

Congrats Drew! For my birthday back in October my grandfather gave me a similar-sounding trial-flight. It's out of Long Island MacArthur
airport, a Cessna 152 I believe. I think it's supposed to be about 1 hr 30 mins in the air, with a brief lesson thing prior to it for about a half
hour. Unfortunately I haven't been able to do it yet, but I'm hoping to as spring comes. I can't wait.

I fly at a club that owns a private runway instead of opperating at a small airport. I live in Toronto so CNC3 is where i train but most
schools would conduct out of small commercial airports such as Toronto island airport were you also pay to use the runway to takeoff
and land. its only a few bucks difference for each hour but over time it adds up. Also when you narrow your search down to what

I guess that I am lucky compared to you guys. My hometown airport (KWVI) Watsonville, CA, pays like 15% of the fuel cost to pilots who
participate in this kids fly free thing that I used to do when I was younger. And all you have to do is go up for 30 minutes to an hour with
three kids, once a month for 6 months a year. And they pay 15% of your fuel all year, as long as you stay in the program. When I finish my
lisence and get a plane I'll probally get into that.

My flying club pays the full cost of fuel for students all exept for a 6 dollar fuel surcharge...I guess the rest is payed by the membership
fee

Yeah its cool its either 15% or 25% i cant remember. But they pay it for life. Also its a big airport (2 runways) but small enough not to
have a tower or landing charges.

I would recomend going early in the morning before the thermals really start flarin up cuz i train in a 152 and the thermals really knock u
around, i do most of my training in the early morning after sun rise or near dusk, but once in a while let my head hit the ceiling from a
small thermal that would seem like a small pebble to a 172.

I got a similar present from my parents which I'm really looking forward to. It consists of a 1 hour lesson on the ground and then a 1 hour flight
from Reid-Hillview (KRHV), San Jose, CA to a destination of my choice and back (not landing at the destination, just getting there and turning
around). I think I'm going to go fly up to San Francisco. I was split between SF and Monterey, but I'm pretty set on SF now because I don't feel
like flying over the Santa Cruz mts. really. The plane is really nice. It's a 2003 C172 SP (N53614). I just went out there and talked with one of
the instructors today. The plane I wanted to take up wasn't there right then, but a 2000 model was (it doesn't have the cool new gps like the 2003
does), but other than that its the same plane. So we went inside and chatted about things about the plane. It was pretty fun. He said that for the intro flight he would fly the takeoff and landing but after/before 1000ft I would fly the rest! Not a good day for
flying though today, it's pretty windy and low ceilings here though. This sunday (the 8th) looks promising though. I'll keep you guys updated

And then the week after next I'm going to go visit Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (which i got into), Prescott, and take an observation ride
there. And then sometime after that I'm going to go visit University of North Dakota. Fun Fun Fun!!!

It seems like lots of people got these presents from their parents for christmas.

actully for christmas i was expecting mroe flight lessons, instead I got me a verrry nice David Clark headset, exepct I cant use it when I
got no money to fly

On my intro flight, I did the takeoff. We were in a 152, and after chatting with the instructor for a while, I asked if he did aerobatic flying. He
responded with an enthusiastic "Oh yeah, that's my favorite thing to do in the world!" I asked what we could do in the little 152, and he told me,
not a whole lot. Pretty much just a hammerhead and a spin. It didn't take a whole lot to coax him into performing both manuvers for me. The
spin was the most intense 15 seconds of my life (including skydiving). It felt like the wings were going to rip off the little bird. It was only
after we leveled out and I flew around for a while longer that I noticed the "NOT RATED FOR SPINS" placard right in the middle of the instrument
panel. Just an insurance technicality, he claimed. Anyway, my point is that next to (and possibly even with) my first solo, the intro flight was my
most memorable and intesne avaiation experience I've ever had or probably ever will have. Have a great time on your flight and don't forget to post
pictures.

I just had my first ground school lesson last night and the instructor I had flew a 707 for the first time (yes he had pictures). Evidently, his
father was an airline pilot...lucky guy. But he was so nervous that his entire body was cletched up and his nuckles were turning white
from grabbing the Yoke so hard. My advice to you Drew is to relax while you fly; if your knuckles are turning white, your grabbing the yoke
too hard

jus remember to drive with left hand on the yoke right on the throttle, eventually (hopefully im not the only one) even in an automatic car im
drivin with one hand on the wheel and one on the shifter, for no apparent reason but its just habbit, i think the funkiest thing is after ur
flying lesson gettin in ur car and driving, it feels so different!

It took me so long to get used to flying with one hand on the throttle...I just don't find it al that comfortable
