I've got the GeForce 6600 256MB, and I'm getting 25-28 FPS at higher altitudes and no appreciable cloud formation. But, when the clouds
start popping up, the FPS drops down to 17 or so... briefly. I have the FPS locked at 30. Yesterday I had my IT guy at work do some
tweaking on my PC to squeeze out more FPS. I think the key to mine was shutting down some programs that usually load during start
up...the ones that run in the background. Even though I have the program "FSStart", I wasn't for certain which programs I
should stop
while in FS9. So, I had my IT guy select the ones I could shut down, save them in FSStart(or FSStartup) and run this program before
loading FS9. It's quite nice having this program....plus, it's FREE. Let's not forget that defragging your pc often can help out, too. I defrag
mine using "Power Defragger". It's sooo much faster and better than "TuneXp" or the Windows defragger already
in the system.
Next month I plan on upgrading my graphics card to a GeForce 6800. Even though my 6600 is doing a decent job, I know the 6800 can
process the graphics must faster than the 6600. It'll be worth the $$ to upgrade.
I couldn't get to grips with the program FSStart. I use a program called End it All. This shuts down everything that is not nessecary.
Normally in my case it closes around 12 programs.
