it depends on how high you are the higher the Atitude the lower your speed is going to be before you go into overspeed

When you get higher in altitude (say above fl260) , switch over to Mach - that way you won't overspeed as you get higher. You should be able to do
around mach 0.8 or so without overspeed.

![]() faster. The mach scale vary with altitude, because the speed of sound vary with temperature. If you are very high (and the air is colder), the sound travel slower than at sea level (where the temperature is higher). You don't have to travel as fast at 45 000 to break the sound barrier. Between 30 000 and 60 000 feet, the speed of sound is about 570 knots, and at sea level it's about 660 knots. So mach and knots are different scale, mesuring two separate thing. Also, most FS 737 panels will have a max airspeed barber pole on the gauge. If you go past it, you're considered overspeed. I set my autothrottle
usually 15kts slower than the barber pole. This gets me arount mach.82 (usually) with still enough buffer for sudden wind sheers.
