cruise speed - andy14 - 27-08-2005 In a 737400 what is the cruise speed i go 300 knts can you go higher than that without overspeed Re: cruise speed - FlyBoy2 - 27-08-2005 it depends on how high you are the higher the Atitude the lower your speed is going to be before you go into overspeed Re: cruise speed - lightrail - 27-08-2005 When you get higher in altitude (say above fl260) , switch over to Mach - that way you won't overspeed as you get higher. You should be able to do around mach 0.8 or so without overspeed. Re: cruise speed - pagir - 27-08-2005 SWAFO certainly know best about mach and knots (at least from his F18 era ![]() faster. The mach scale vary with altitude, because the speed of sound vary with temperature. If you are very high (and the air is colder), the sound travel slower than at sea level (where the temperature is higher). You don't have to travel as fast at 45 000 to break the sound barrier. Between 30 000 and 60 000 feet, the speed of sound is about 570 knots, and at sea level it's about 660 knots. So mach and knots are different scale, mesuring two separate thing. If you fly at mach 0.8, your speed is about 80% of the sound's speed. It won't allow you to know your "true speed". A quick ![]() messages have always sounded a bit trollish ![]() I just discussed 737 cruise speed a few days ago... a forum search would also turn up relevant results! Please try these various avenues of finding information next time, before posting easy questions! Thanks! Anyway, the cruise speed of most 737's will vary between about 300KTS GS, all the way up to 500KTS ground speed. This is in the 345 to 615 MPH range! Pretty fast! Lots of conditions are factored in to the final determination of cruise speed. These include airline specific economy settings, altitude, air pressure, various other atmospheric conditions, departure delays, and LOTS of other things. 300 KIAS is about the cruise speed of a 737 at FL290 (roughly). You ask elementary questions, so I'm giving elementary answers! Hope this helps! Re: cruise speed - JaWood - 29-08-2005 Also, most FS 737 panels will have a max airspeed barber pole on the gauge. If you go past it, you're considered overspeed. I set my autothrottle usually 15kts slower than the barber pole. This gets me arount mach.82 (usually) with still enough buffer for sudden wind sheers. Re: cruise speed - SWAFO - 29-08-2005 Mach .82? Someone likes their speed! That's a bit faster than we normally go! Re: cruise speed - Sovek - 29-08-2005 I fly at mach 8.3-8.4 all the time :P Re: cruise speed - pagir - 29-08-2005 8.3 8.4??? Are you flying an secret hypersonic X737 ? ![]() Pagir Re: cruise speed - Sovek - 29-08-2005 I push it as fast as it can go, without it going too fast. that and its the kittyhawk 737-800 Re: cruise speed - Ryanamur - 29-08-2005 Then you'd be flying at M0.83 or M0.84 and not M8.3 or M8.4 ![]() ![]() ![]() Re: cruise speed - Sovek - 29-08-2005 oh, my mistake, Re: cruise speed - pagir - 30-08-2005 Bah, We all understood what you were saying.
