You don't have to maintain the plane after each and every flight. You have to maintain them every 25 hours and every 100 hours, and on top of that the
status of the plane drops slightly after each flight, so there is a cost status showing how much the plane's maintanence would be worth after every
flight. I usually start "maintaining" my planes after their status drops below 95% or so.
Another emergency reason to maintain the plane would be to repair damage, let's say if you bugger up and damage the plane (Like when I drove my 757
off the runway at Washington Dulles) or if a failure occurs and it needs repairing anyway (like when the gear of my 757 failed on departure this
morning) these can cost a lot of money though so use the part paid insurance feature.
