From no failures to too many failures! - Fritz Bayerlein - 10-09-2005

I went a long time without any failures, and now suddenly I can't even get away from them.

Last night I had my gear get stuck and I had to belly in, causing $46 million in damages. Now, trying to takeoff from that cursed airport at
Honolulu, I had a window crack at 20000ft about 40 miles out, decompression, and I had to do ANOTHER emergency landing.

Maybe I'll be able to take off and land at least once in these next few days without a problem?

Re: From no failures to too many failures! - BriT - 10-09-2005

lol what is your failure % set as?

Re: From no failures to too many failures! - Fritz Bayerlein - 10-09-2005

5% man.

Re: From no failures to too many failures! - silo - 10-09-2005

Maybe a stupid question but you didn't mention it so...are you performing post flight maintenance after every flight? That's besides the 25
and the 100 hours maint.

Re: From no failures to too many failures! - Fritz Bayerlein - 10-09-2005

No, that costs too much. All I do is the 25 and 100 hour maintenance, funds providing. I bought the plane with 1710 hours on it already
but it was in great condition.

Re: From no failures to too many failures! - silo - 10-09-2005

Well...that might explain it then. 2 things:

1) you bought an used airplane. Even with low hours you don't know how the previous owner was maintaining it.
2) You don't do post flight maintenance. Your airplane degrades with time and it might get bad until you do the 25 or 100 hour maint.

The above could contribute to what is happening to you now. If you want to know for sure than we'll have to wait for a clarification from the
programmers...

Also, with a 5% failure chance, you could have no failures for hundreds of flights, then have hundreds of failures in a row! It's unlikely, but
that's what can happen. 5% simply means that you have a 5% chance something will go wrong, and a 95% chance nothing will happen.
I have my failure percentage set on 3%, and I've had 2 failures (out of 76 flights). Both of the failures occured on two flights right next to
each other (one happened one flight, then the next one happened on the next flight). If you don't want as many failures, simply set your
failure percentage lower!

This said silo might be right also, if you don't maintain aircraft and theire state goes down to 50% for example
you will have now a 5%+50%=55% chance of failures each flights.

Silo is right. So you have this 5% base + used airplane (maybe 20%?) + past owner was bad (+10%?) + bad maintenance (+30%?) =
65% (just guessing...)

So you see: you HAVE to make maintenance.

I wonder if we don't post in same time ? Wonder Smile

Looks like you guys did! Exact same minute, exact same answer! Weird!

My luck just gets worse.

Had a bird strike, engine shut down 100nm out of Honolulu, I had to land on one engine, caused 20 million in damage because she
wouldn't fly straight.

This plane has cost me more than its worth.

I hear ya, today I've had a fuel leak and then an engine fire, which led to me accidently opeing the door which led to decompression which
led to airframe damage and some light headed passengers.

Geez I can't get enough of FSP. Smile Smile Smile Smile

Being new here I never herd of this [ performing post flight maintenance after every flight]
Please let me know how to do the maintenance and should I do it after every flight ?
Explain the program please .
