Quick FSAutostart Tutorial - DBE - 27-08-2005 Just in case you happen to suffer from CTDs (Crash to Desktop), this is the prog which helped me. Basically what it does is shutdown those tasks which are not absolutely required to run FS2004. You can get it here ==> http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004util&DLID=57040 And here's how to use it: Upon loading the prog, you'll be presented with the following window: ![]() Before you do anything, select Tools\Program Options from the tool bar and check that the Tool Tips are enabled: ![]() Then, from the main menu, select Services. You will be presented with a list of the tasks currently configured on your machine: ![]() ![]() If you click on each one of them, FSAutostart will display a recommendation in a second window, i.e. can you REALLY stop the task or not.. For those tasks that can be stopped, simply click on the words No Action. You will then be presented with the following options: ![]() Select Stop for all the tasks you do not need and save your configuration. By clicking on Start on the main menu, the tasks will be shut down. That's all there is to it! ![]() Re: Quick FSAutostart Tutorial - nem - 27-08-2005 Now for the interesting part: does it restart the processes that were shut down when you quit FS? ![]() Re: Quick FSAutostart Tutorial - DBE - 28-08-2005 Interesting? Hmmm... So how is the prog meant to know that you've shut down FS? ![]() Re: Quick FSAutostart Tutorial - nem - 28-08-2005 By looking up the FS9.exe process in Windows' process list. If it's not there anymore it must've been shut down. But I take that as a "no". Pity. Post Edited ( 08-28-05 02:20 ) Re: Quick FSAutostart Tutorial - DBE - 28-08-2005 Which would mean keeping FSAutostart running all the time. Kinda defeats the object IMHO. Re: Quick FSAutostart Tutorial - nem - 28-08-2005 Depends on its size and the size of the processes shut down. ![]() Or you could run it again after quitting FS9 and it restarts the other processes. Kind of a system snapshot thing. Well, whatever. Wouldn't wanna spoil the fun. I was just asking. Post Edited ( 08-28-05 03:19 ) Re: Quick FSAutostart Tutorial - Chris B. - 27-09-2005 I've installed FSAutostart and it's quite good at trimming down the processess of the system to get more out of the computer. I still did have the problem though of crashing to a black screen as soon as I confirm that the tower has handed me off to ground shortly after landing. I just cannot find anything that helps this crashing problem and sadly has curbed back my flying enthusiasm. My system is kept updated and top notch! Being a graphic designer I naturally am apt to keep these things working good (also playing the role of I.T. guy at my office/ new motherboards, HDD's, etc). I have had no crashes of any sort with my computer or with FS9 before FSP. I also run FSManager since I wanted it to enable the FS9 engine to allow crashes where wings rip off and fire blazes. But I had the FSP radio handoff problem before I even installed FSManager. Last night just just on a hunch about the radio. I started with FSAutostart to trim dowm the system. Fire up FS9. Then start up FSP. I flew a short trip but this time I set my COM2 radio to some no nothing frequency for both the active and awaiting frequency. In another word, no chatter (although I do love the sound of it). My hunch was that the radio chatter on COM 2 was somehow interferring with the radio handoff after landing. And well.... no crash!!!!!!!! I still need to test this more but could some of you try this yourself to see if it helps your situation? Could there be a bug with the engine that automatically runs the COM2 chatter? I'm not a programmer, just I person that tends to be good at diagnosing things. Thanx, Chris B. in Iowa Re: Quick FSAutostart Tutorial - DavidPowell - 27-09-2005 If you choose the 'Stop and Restart' option that's exactly what it does. Stops the service/program on before starting FS and restarts when FS closes. Re: Quick FSAutostart Tutorial - DBE - 27-09-2005 Quote:DavidPowell wrote: Oh! Errm.. ![]() That just reminds me that I was meaning to test that option... Tx for the remark! ![]() |
