My Co-Pilot

Hi

Have been flying with FSP for a few weeks and could not fly without it anymore. It gives much more meaning to the simulation.

My co-pilot sometimes announces the altitude in accurately when decending for landing. eg Altimeter reads 1000 but he announces 500.
This happens all the time and its usually 500 less then the meter readings. what could be wrong. Please help.

Altimeters DO NOT read altitude in AGL (Above Ground Level), in other words-- the co-pilot is telling you how high you are from the
earth; not the sea!

Example: You might be at 5,400 feet above the ground-- but your altimeter will read 6,000 feet above the ground. So when you reach 400 feet (Which your Co-pilot would have just said), your altimeter would read 1,000 feet. Hope I was of help!

Radar altimeter or he knows how high ASL the airport is. As an example I come in towards Spokane at 4000 fee, yet this is only 2500 feet
roughly due to how high up the airport is, it's something like 2300 odd feet Above Sea Level. Most airliners (if not all) have a radar
altimeter, and during landing it would be the job of whoever is not flying the plane to read that out to the person flying it, that way they know
just how high they really are. There's 2 reasons, both to do with accuracy, 1/ the Pilot needs the exact altitude, although he may be using
the ILS system especially in low visibility. 2/ the slightest sudden change in Barometric Pressure will throw the main altimeter reading off,
and this could be dangerous if you were solely relying on that to land.

gpws also works in the same way. sometimes if you are in high altitude airport (like denver or mexico city) it will say you are 7,000 above
sealevel when you actually on the ground

and, of course, the altimeter should be set for local pressure
