speed brakes

say if you put the speedbrakes on full at fl20 at 400knot, in real life will they break or are they strong enough...

A jet jock should answer this question but my turboprop understanding of speed breaks are they have a flight detent and a ground detent. Thus full in
the air is not the same as full on the ground. Also many of the EPs for mach tucking include spoilers up.

I don't know about commercial airliners but the only jet that I flew (CT-114 Tutor) could deploy the speedbrakes at any speed. I also flew
in a F-18 but I didn't operate the speedbrakes... however, it being a jet fighter, I have no doubts that you can deploy the speedbrake when
sub-sonic.

Oh, one more thing, the faster you are, the more effective the speedbrakes are. Remember that speedbrakes effectiveness is based on
how much drag they create. The faster you go, the more drag they will create.
