Simple Question - Calculating time between two airports

Say for example I want to fly from Chicago to JFK in a 737 (KORD to KJFK).

When you load the plane and set the destination, how do you know your arrival time? Am I missing a way for it to autocalculate the time
or do you guess?

Well, my method is to create a flight plan using FS2004s flight planner, then access the completed flight plan in the kneeboard. The total flight
time is there, based on the expected ground speed between waypoints. I add a margin for taxiing, ATC, climb, etc., and come up with an estimate.
More often than not, that's good enough to get the 100 point on-time bonus in FSP.

So the short answer is, first create a flight plan.

actually sometimes the FS flight planner sucks, and you have to caculate it your self. for instance the DC-3, in the flight planner it says a ground
speed of 95 knots, Im travaling about 180 knots right now, obviously Im gonna arrive way early if I go by the flight planner.

fs nav tells me the time that it will take, also plans the route for me

You can enter your two airports and your average speed and it will tell you (approx.) how long your trip will take.

Add 10-15 min. and your there!

Mostly I use the flight planner from MSFS.

With a short flight, let's say
10-60minutes, I add another 30-40 minutes. (Depends a bit on the size of your airport)
A flight of more than 1 hour, I add 45 minutes. Should be enough.

I personally like to look up real flights and then fly them. You can get altitude, speeds, and flight plans from http://flightaware.com
I just look at what time the company said and it's usually within 5 or so minutes.

Just divide your GS by the distance, like 1000nm divided by average speed of 450 = 2.2 hours

Just do the flight and then in pilots log look up the block time and next time you do the flight you should get it spot on.
