Hi,
There is new news on FSinsider
With some of the Flight Simulator team just back from E3, and all of us focused on trying to get a Beta build out the door, we’re falling behind on keeping this site updated with interesting information. Make that “way behind.” We realized we needed to post some E3 content, so we did what came naturally—we started stalling, trying to figure out which screenshots to put up, arguing over whose trip report to copy and paste, all that sort of thing. In the meantime, anyone coming to FSInsider looking for news about our E3 splash found nothing but figurative tumbleweeds.
Just when we had decided that the easiest thing to do would be to rename the site “FSOutsider” and then get back to work, our Art Director said “Why don’t we just give them the whole press kit?”
Nobody could think of a good reason not to, so here you go.

Coming Soon!
Yes, we know you’ve seen a few of these before. We also know that, in one of them, the 172 has “asymmetric flap deployment”—in other words, one down, and one up. A number of sharp-eyed people have pointed this out in various forums. What they don’t know is that we knew about it and let the shot go anyway, because it shows other cool stuff. Why were the flaps like that? Was it just temporarily broken animation, not unusual at this stage in development? Or was it a hint that we might be working on some new systems failures? The smart money says “all of the above.”
Oh, and to answer a surprisingly common question, no, that isn’t condensation on the windows of the de Havilland Beaver—they’re convex, so that’s just a reflection.
For anyone asking the question “Why should I buy FSX if I have FS2004?” please see the “before/after” shots in the last column for a couple of possible answers.
In addition to the screenshots we handed out, we showed and then made available a “trailer” video, focused primarily on some of the missions content we were announcing.
For a nice-sized streaming version, click here.
For a larger (160MB) high-definition (720P) downloadable version, click here.
Yes, some of it is sped up for “dramatic effect”—we know the cars look like they’re moving too fast, for example, especially for those of us that have ever commuted on Washington’s Highway 520. Just think of it this way—the faster the clips, the more we were able to squeeze in.
And, finally, no press kit would be complete without a FAQ and a Fact Sheet. If you read the Fact Sheet closely enough, you’ll see a couple of new features that you might find interesting, and that we haven’t talked about that much here or elsewhere.
With that—it’s back to work!
