Altitude Discrepancy

Hi guys,

I have looked through the forum without finding the answer to my question, so here i'm!

I have crashed, which is not a surprise considering my pilot skills!!

But this time I have crashed because of a discrep. in altitude between FS2004 & FsP.

At 10000 both were equal. Descending at a (what I think is a good VS for a 737) 1800 and 235 Knt.

Suddendly FsP is telling me altidude 2500 and FS is still at 4000?? Naturally as I was landing in Geneva I crashed somewhere above
my real house in the Jura mountain while approaching to the Geneva airport!!! Thanks God is only virtual!!
This happened twice. Once in Geneva and once in Zurich (did not crash in ZH but passengers were not so happy about my
landing!!)

Do I do anything wrong? I guess yes but if someone could help would be great.

FsP gpws is only a thought but does not set crash flag if you run <0 altitude
so my thought is that you made a controlled flight into terrain

l'altitude indiquée par l'altimetre n'est pas ton altitude au dessus du sol il y a donc deux altitudes:

une est appellée "AGL" "above ground level" ou encore "au dessus du sol"
et l'autre "AMSL" above medium see level (en dessus du niveau moyen de la mer)

Les 4000 feet the FS son des AMSL et FSP a "hurlé" a cause de la AGL qui tu en conviendra
est celle qui nous interesse dans ce ca

En bref pour expliquer simplement: si tu vol au dessus de l'everest ton altimetre indiquera
40'000 feet (AMSL donc) et tu te crashera dans la montagne car ton altitude AGL
sera de zero....

En bref la seul altitude qui intteresse un GPWS (Ground proximity warning system ou encore
Avertissement de proximité du sol) est l'altitude AGL... (en dessus du sol)

En super bref tu t'est crashé dans le jura car l'altimetre n'indique pas ton altitude au dessus
du relief et tu nous a fait un joli "vol controllé dans le relief"

I think everyone deserve an answer, without discrimination... Dan and flyaway can speak french, so... (if someone can help us explain

This said Dan was explaining the distinction between "AGL" "above ground level" and "AMSL" above medium sea level.

In short, Dan was explaining that you can have AGL of 0 and AMSL of 40 000 if you're flying toward the Everest. If AGL is 0, you're on
ground (or crashed!) So it's not a surprise if Flyaway's AMSL was 4000 and AGL was 2500 near Geneva, since Geneva is higher than the
medium sea level.

Hi,

I have another question on this topic. I am flying with the PMDG 737-800 and as I fly in Europe I would like to use the 5000 ft level for my
transition altitude (changed FsP already). As the PMDG add-on has the default tranition level of FL180 as transition I would have to
change the altimeter manually to 2992, but as I also have ActiveSky 5.0 running it was impossible to select exactly this amount. I could
select 2993 or 2990 or whatever, but no chance to get to 2992.

... and guess what... I got my penalties of course... which is fine...

At the moment I only see the chance to keep it at FL180..... or does anyone has a better idea..

sue the FSP keyboard fuction for that:

type : "K2992" and you should get 2992...
