I've never taken the lessons, In FS2002 I took the PPL test and passed it first go, without taking any lessons. I can land everything from a
Cessna to a 747 and even Concorde. The lessons are there, but half the fun with FS is you can learn as you go on. I could go through a
long (very long) list of what I've learnt through FS alone, without what guys like Brad have tought me, and still I know I've a lot to learn, but I
just never had the patience to sit through the lessons only to get halfway through and get told by the instructor "okay I'm ending the lesson
now you not doing it right", if I'm not right then tell me what I'm doing wrong for crying out loud and gimme a chance, at least on my own I
can find out for myself what's wrong and correct it. Look at my landings, nearly all kiss landings now, and self taught, because I'm flying
small stuff most are full manual approach, since most of the fields I'm in and out of are little more than a bit of asphalt in the middle of
nowhere.
If the guy wants to take the lessons sure, but if not then let FSP teach him what he needs to know. After all, like with driving 90% of flying
is just plane common sense and a bit of physics, in fact as long as you know enough about airflow then the rest should be fairly easy in
the small stuff, then you have the Turboprops to look forward to, and after that you learn the heavy stuff, then my friends the world is your
oyster.
