Hurricane Hunting

Must be my mad cow flaring up but just finished flight with my 757 into Cancun (where hurricane Wilma is bearing down on). Also
couldn't believe that 168 pax wanted to join me
I wanted to see the weather effects (real weather downloads) associated with hurricanes.

Bad idea! During approach I had cross winds of 60 kts at 3000' AGL. Darn near ripped my flaps off at 5 deg setting on approach. Had to
declare emergency and land without flaps. Came in hot but managed a safe but hard landing. Cost me 3.5 million to fix and got
penalized 1200 pts--so much for profit and/or promo gain on that trip

Anyone else have adventures flying into Hurricane weather?

Agreed.
I couldn't see the winds either but they were there.
Actually my flaps got damaged due to rapid change in plane speed. I was vectoring in at 220 kts with 1 notch on the flaps and all of of
sudden the gage jumped to 280 kts.

With ASV-e I was flying around Cancun yesterday in the CS C-130 and was getting quite turbulent with winds of 60 around the area and
dense clouds

ASV-e seems to make hurricane flying a bit more realistic whereas with default weather engine its virtually clear skies

You can see huricanes where I live.
I live in south east Florida.
As a mater if fact there is one heding this way now.

During Hurricane Rita, I took to the skies in Fort Worth, Texas.... during takeoff, the plane skid about 10 metres from the runway, very
powerful winds!

I took off from an airfield in a light aircraft near where the hurricanes had just been... I was hurtling down the runway for takeoff on just one
wheel due to the crosswinds

There simply aren't enough reporting stations in the FS2004 real world weather tracking network to accurately recreate a hurricane in the simulator.
You can get a strong wind at some stations, true, but not a complete hurricane.

Im thinking ASV-e does a pretty good job of it. Granted its payware but WELL worth the expense

Agree with SaVas. ASV is worth every cent I paid for it. Really recreates the weater and effects well.
