Video Card Help

i have a pny gforce 6800gs IT SUC*S the frame rates are VERY bad in most payware aircraft.

i need some help from you guys.

i see that only ati have 512 mb cards and it has crossfire dont know what it is. but everyone i know says ati is crap.

and crossfire?? what is cross fire i fred but my braine went crazy! and do ineed a crossfiremotherboard i have intel d955xbk.

i also see that 7800 gt/gtx ect is bad also but it only has 250mb cards??? and the reviews are not good.

i ben looking allllll day for stuff i like the ait but once again everyone says they suk

i am on a buged of $$450MAX.

please help me

There must be something wrong in configuration... I get decent fps on my low-end Nvidia.

Do not buy 512 mb video cards; that's overkill and a waste of money as no applications can use that much vram.

None of the cards you mentioned are 'crap'. Must be other parts of your configuration or wrong settings.

Ati is not crap. A matter of fact ATI AND NVIDIA? all are crap. Yeah definitely something wrong with configuration or bios

Crossfire is a method of combining the capabilities of more than one compatible graphics card. Basically, like adding a second processor to a
multiprocessor system. It only works on PCI Express, because no computer has more than one AGP slot, and original PCI is too slow to support it.

Your nVidia 6800 is actually better than my nVidia 6600, and I get decent enough frame rates (nothing spectacular, but my bottleneck is with my
processor/motherboard speed, not the gfx card).

You need to list your full system spec in order for us to give you the best advice.

For comparison, I have:-

an AMD Athlon XP2600+ @ 1.9 GHz
an ASRock K7SX8E motherboard
1 GB of PC3200 RAM
an XPertVision nVidia GeForce 6600 128 MB AGP 8x graphics card
1x 160 GB hard drive
1x 120 GB hard drive (50 GB of which has been partitioned aside exclusively for Flight Sim 2004)

can say that the 7800 GT works pretty nice on my system, and have read only good comments about it's performance. Anyhow I'm really
happy and satisfied with it!

Post your complete system specs and lets see what the problem is. I slow CPU could cause that, or not enough RAM. Also your video card specs could
have some problems in them.

I get great frames with a 6800GT 256mb card (though the fan is bad on it now and Im waiting on a new cooling fan system for it)

More than likely you have a lot of behind the scenes background applications running that are sucking too much RAM

so can i run crofffire pci e card???

well people says fsx needs 512 mb. i want the BEST frame rates ever and i am having problems

so i really need the best for the money i like high end.

You installed your GeForce 7800 graphics card, yet you list an Intel Extreme series video card in your system spec.

I'm intrigued - did you disable the Intel Extreme card (in your PC's BIOS) after you installed your GeForce?

After you installed your GeForce, did you install the latest nVidia drivers, or did you use the drivers that came on the CD accompanying the card?

Intel Extreme video chipsets are completely useless for FS. Put in a real gfx card and disable the Intel Extreme in the BIOS.

As far as 512 MB cards are concerned - even nVidia and ATI say (unofficially, natch) there's no point at present. For all the extra cost involved,
you could have a card with a higher-spec GPU core, and higher VRAM bandwidth/clock speed. It'll give you similar or better results for a similar
cost. 256 MB is loads. Hell, I get along fine with 128 MB.
