Bug Fix Request

You could always check you status while in the air. Simply press crtl-i and you will be presented with an inflight report. There you can see your
destination airport and abort your flight if you have typed in the wrong ICAO code.

You have the ability to add these to the database now and you can add them there. What I am saying is that if it aint in the database it

thats an idea. If I type in the wrong code next time I will just declare an emergency and not get pinged.

Anyone want to buy a used copy of FSPassengers because the support sucks big time.

and what I'm saying is that FS's database cannot be retrieved by FsP and that FsP doesn't have a database of it's own. Don't blame FsP
for this, blame Microsoft for making a crappy interface for third party add-on interaction! What FsP does is check the GPS for the match.
That's the only way it can make it happen. That's not a bug, it's a design limitation. Sorry! Of course, if you're not happy with the destination interface/entry there's nothing forcing you to enter a destination in the first place!

Phil, I'm wondering if FSX changes this setup at all. I doubt it but stranger things have happened. It's likely I'll be at Gamefest (MS show) next
month and I'm sure FSX will be very much a part of it. Plus the real guys responsible for it will be there. I'll have to ask about this but already
have 100 other questions for them.

I'm not the programmer, Dan is. I'm only a beta tester used for his knowledge of real world flying . So I can't tell you more then what I've
heard over my 18 month involment with FsP and in short, that's "MS' SDK sucks". If Dan makes another update (dependant on FSX
release date), I'll recommend that a confirmation pop-up after you press OK.

BTW, I'm shocked no one mentioned this after all this bickering back and forth.

I went into into FSP tonight and typed in KRDU. For the first time I noticed that it popped up and said something like:

KRDU Raleigh-Durham International Airport

It was bold. First, I never noticed this before. Second, where'd that come from if not some database? WHY I never noticed this before I have NO idea,
but it seems odd to me that no one mentioned it before.

On tonight's flight I screwed up royally. I was in a rush to try and get on VATSIM before the east coast guys got off so in my rush I forgot to set
the belts sign (I have GOT to get a checklist) and suddenly I had passengers wigging out on take-off. Oops. Of course all that rushing was for nothing
as once I got airborne and out a bit, the Center and RDU controllers logged off and neither had been on for even an hour. Doh!

From the first page of this thread:

If you type in an airport which is in the list it will also show you the name of the airport. If it doesn't show you the name it's either not
in the
list or it doesn't exist so it should alarm you to double check your entry

The list mentioned is in a file called Icao_db.cfg in your config folder. It's only there to provide the icao to name translation and can be editted
by everyone

Well, for now that'll do. I can't believe I missed it twice too. In the game and in the thread. Doh!

Out of curiosity, why couldn't that file be used for basic checking? (realizing fully its limitations)

Oh, on the down side, the stuck mini-display was back. I was at 4x but this time I could move it if I hit ALT and then just ESC. That would unlock it.

Something is clearly not right with that menu and I think it's fair to call that one a bug. Right next to it on my display is the Squawkbox transponder display and it has no such difficulty. I can move it anywhere at any time. For the time being though it appears it only gets stuck in flight here and there and I have a work-around now to address it.

Though not meant to start another discussion about this but i do have the issue with other addons also, i still think it's not fsp related. In some
planes you can for example zoom the different gauges, like in the ATR. Sometimes I'm not able to move those zoomed gauges, or the screen get
scrambled, or the sim hangs for a few seconds etc.
For me, most of these problems disappeared when updating drivers and playing around with its settings.
Looking at other flightsim forums this seems to be a well known limitation of fs9, it's poor screen handling?

Yikes! Okay, deep breath everyone.

I have a quick question that may clear some of this up, as I think there's a mis-communication going on here. To get the name of the
airport by the ICAO entered, FSP doesn't have it's own database but rather it access FS's airport DB, right? Personally, I agree with the
comments about entering the wrong code - you should be able to doublecheck to make sure you typed it right. But, if a code is typed that
is NOT in the FS database, is there a check in FSP to respond if a match isn't found? That would be a quick fix for an update - simple
disable the "Okay" button if an improper code is entered and rather than displaying the airport name, make the label display something
like, "Airport not in database."

It sounds like the original poster of the question believed that FSP had it's own airport database. That would limit FSP as other airports
could be added to FS which would not be recognized by FSP. (I've had similar headaches when working on my addon thing - how to
make error-proof entries yet still allow for the many configurable options of FS).

I can sympathize though, as I have had numerous flights that got killed because of one thing or another - not FSP as yet. Most often, it
was CTD issues or total freezes of FS. Lately, after getting that PMDG 737, I had downloaded a scenery for KEWR, brought up a CO
737NG and set up a flight plan. Then, went inside, started FSP and began the FMC setup. After going through everything including the
real-time load, I was about 30 minutes into the flight (not including the flight planning prior). I setup for push back and the clock started.
After backing out and turning, I prepared to taxi out to the runway and then - BANG! Crash! With what?! I was over at, gate 25 I think, at
the end of that "V" shaped concourse (don't remember but it was near the end of the Continental Terminal). When the crash occurred, I
was "in the 'V'" and not near any structure. I thought that maybe the crash was with another aircraft so, like a dope, I reloaded everything
AT THE SAME GATE and started the whole thing over. This time, I slewed slightly before starting things, to clear any aircraft nearby.
This time, on push, I didn't move! I thought it was the P.Brake but it was off. Then - CRASH! It was obvious now that it was a scenery
error and my first reaction was to go post everywhere I could find not to download that scenery! Hey, after all was said and done, I'd
wasted about 2 hours and was still on the ground at Newark!

So, I can understand the frustration that comes with wasted time due to something that I don't fully understand - however, I still think that
scenery sucks!

(Side note: I opted NOT to slander the maker of the sucky scenery. And no, I'm not saying this guy is slandering Dan either - he asked a question; fair enough.)

Airliner, I keep seeing people say that matches wouldn't be found for those who have added other airports and such. I think this would be a rare case
and feel it would be better to have checks here for when they can check. If it's not there, just let the guy know and he can go ahead and choose to
say, "No I want to fly to /// " (which was the example given) and then he'll have to live with the consequences for saying /// was somehow valid. Even
I draw the line at some point when dealing with user error. < grin >

I'd love to see a map option to see the flightplan I'm about to embark on. We already have a map. We already know where I'm sitting and now we know
where I say I'm going. If the screen included, optionally, the map, It'd be really hard to miss the issue. If I typed KLAA when I meant KLAS, I'd see
my flight taking off from say, KDEN and then heading ending almost immediately at a small airport also in Colorado. "Hey, that's not right!" Plus it'd
look cool.

I have a KEWR scenery as well as many other sceneries from the place where I paid for that one and I gave up on all of them. They just killed the
framerates and support there become so invisible that it's not literally invisible. Their forum has been removed from their website.

Until MS produces a product that can handle added scenery and the other things I want and still run at a SOLID 20fps (with no stutters or pauses or
glitches) I'm just going to try to keep it fairly simple.

I should point out that the KEWR scenery I got was freeware, so I really shouldn't complain, as I paid nothing for it.

It's just that if I put my name on something, I would at least want it to work properly. That's why I put the qualifier on Pilot Career - it was
just a quick little thing and not intended to be a fully, hands off addon to an addon. If I wanted to spend more time on it, I could have made
it so that you don't have to manually log the flight. But, I just wanted something out there. That's how it was intended and that's how it
ended up. But, when I made the Jetway template for adding Rwy12 jetway macros to scenery, I took the time to get everything just right.
Where you put the template is where the jetway shows up.

Anyway, where was I going with this?

Agree and if the name doesn't show up but you're sure the code is correct, you can very easily add the code and the name yourself to the file

Double DOH! I missed that too!

Now, here's a thought - I'm at work so I can't look at that file but does it also contain Lat/Lon coords? If not, that might be a further idea for
a later version. If the DB could grab all the coords from FS and throw them in there with the code and name, then you could virtually
eliminate the wrong airport thing that's been posted about - the center of airport issue. Any "flyer" could easily open up the airport in
AFCAD and find the coords closest to the gates where their airline will be instructed to park. These coords could then be place into that
file so that you wouldn't have the "Landed at wrong airport" come up.

Of course, if each airport's coords have to be hand entered, that could be a monster pain in the... There is a file out there that lists every
single airport in FS9 but, I think the coords are for runway ends, as each entry is for a runway - plus, it's huge - something like 95,000
lines! Every runway is listed along with airport code, runway surface lat/lon, etc.
