Me, too. It always seems to work well with the PMDG fmc, unlike the default flight planner's routes.

I too use that, it works very well. I also use http://flightaware.com/analysis/route.rvt for actual flights in USA, and http://www.fsroute.com/ for
exporting the flights.

How exactly do you do this? Is there a folder to save the file to?

First I find the route with http://rfinder.asalink.net/free/ , let's take EGLL - EKCH. It finds this which is on the bottom of the page:
"EGLL SID BPK UM185 CLN UL620 TULIP UZ700 BEDUM UN873 JUIST UP729 LUGAS STAR EKCH"

Then I copy the part that is in blue and paste it in the route window on this site http://www.fsroute.com/ (It does not support SID and STAR).
Put EGLL in the "Departure" window and EKCH in the "Arrival" Window. Then choose what you want to export to from the "F/P Export" window and press
"Generate".
Now if there are no errors (Errors could be if you put SID or STAR in the route window), then a popup should appear asking to open or save the file
(of which you should select to save it)

"MS Flight Simulator 200x" is for the default flight planner and you save it in
"C:\Documents and Settings\Your user name\My Documents\Flight Simulator Files"

"PMDG" is for (yes you guessed it) PMDG 737 and 747 and you save it in "your main Flightsim directory\PMDG\FLIGHTPLANS"

"Level D/PIC 767" Is for the Level-D 767 and PIC 767. For the Level-D 767, you save it in
"your main flightsim directory\Level-D Simulations\navdata\Flightplans"

I don't know about the others.

After you saved it, you just need to open it with the flight planner or FMC for the aircraft you use.

I didn't know about that, so I went in and checked right away. I opened flightplanner and clicked on a random airway. you're right, It says:
"Minimum Enroute Altitude (MEA):" and a altitude.
Well back to the question. Minimum Enroute Altitude means that to fly this airway, you should at least be at that altitude. If you see one that says
17000ft, then it means that you should be at 17000ft or above.

That's the ONLY way, using airways. Read Fred Clauson's PMDG tutorial on AVSIM; it helps a lot with the fmc. A lot of it would probably also work
for LDS.

You may also set FSNav to autoroute your flight plan following airways automaticaly.
High or low?
Simply, if you fly not pressurized aircraft, use low level airways. This way you'll stay below 18'000ft.
If you fly pressurized one, use high level airways. You'll be able to fy over 18'000.
By the way, in case you may not know, all altitudes above transition altitude (18'000ft) are called "flight level". They are in hundreds of
feets. For example, FL270 means 27'000ft.
And yet one more thing, above transition altitude you have to set your barometric pressure to 2992.

Just like to add, that altitude for transition level is different from country to country. And I read something about that some contries have
different transition levels depending on if they fly inside or outside controlled airspace.

But for simplification, FS9 do not support different transition altitudes simultaneously.
So if you configure it for 18'000 and fly from US to europe, you'll have this transition altitude all the way.
This is the issue only for MSFS ATC though.
Actually, it feels like MSFS is made with US rules in mind. It can't be that realistic in other countries no matter whatever you do with it.

the TL is 110 and the TA is 9,500'. Thus they may be different depending on the airport in the same country that you fly to/from.

Hi Ken,

Do you have any idea why there is such large differences between countries in such a small geographical area when it comes to the
transition altitudes? I'm not saying that the US is more correct, but at least it's uniformly set at 18000. Can't the countries in Europe
come up with an agreed upon standard for the area?
