I know it's not the captains job, however pressing a 3-button combination in order to start service (after that it's automatic), isn't that bad.
Sometimes in real flying, I'll tell the FA's to wait to serve until I'm through some turbulence... therefore, manual serving can be viewed as
more realistic, since ultimately it is the captain (or FO in my case
) that has the final say in when the food/beverage service is started,
and IF any will be served (always is, now don't get worried).
