Archer, good post. I hear alot of that junk while flying a C208 in the north central region of the US. Last week, while flying KRHI-KMKE with
level 2 thunderstorms to the east of my position, I heard a pilot of a Cessna 421 ask ATC if he could have a "pop-up" clearance. Of course
I chuckled at that moment. The guy must've been getting beat up pretty bad in the turbulence. I had to fly race tracks near Appleton,Wi. for
an hour before being cleared direct to Badger intersection near MKE....then the chatter cranked up beyond belief! Once I reached Badger,
I couldn't believe my ears when tower cleared me to RWY 9R approach....#3 for landing. Most of the time they will have me fly race tracks
until I insist I get clearance or else I will run out of gas! Anyway, there's no substitution for real-time ATC and pilot faux pas...I have sure
heard my share of them.
