Aye, iin the UK, you can take your PPL when you're 16 now. Though in some cases there is a way to get more hours - join the ATC/CCF RAF and do the GIC
and GS courses in the Grob Vigilant; back when I took them I was informed that the hours I'd done in the Vigiland and the Tutor as an Air Cadet could
count towards hours in my PPL but that would differ from school to school.
Of course, I did my GS five years ago now, and the GICs seven years ago so things have probably changed.
