MiG-8 was designed to check stability and controllability of "Canard" aircraft configuration and to study characteristics of highly-swept
wing.

Controllability of MiG-8 aircraft fitted out with pusher propeller could be checked at the low speed when over-wing airflow produced by
propeller was not available. Besides, tests allowed to check the aircraft controllability on the ground and to study peculiarity of take-off and
landing approach (go around) when propeller did not product airflow over control surfaces. Results of this research were used later for jet
fighter design.

The first flights were made by test pilots A.N.Grinchik and A.I.Zhukov in 1945.
