So FS is freezing after you encounter some sound problems? I have the same soundcard as you, and have noticed the same sound
issues with some games (although not FS). It sounds like your soundcard could simply be overloading your system. Try going into
DirectX Diagnostics, and turning down sound hardware acceleration by a notch or two. If that doesn't work, try completely disabling it.
From what I've heard, this works in most cases.
To get into DX DIAG: Start, Run, dxdiag. From here click on the sound tab, then adjust the acceleration level.
