Penalty for service on descent

Hi Guys,
On two consecutive flights I have encountered a strange penalty fault. As I am descending to finals and the plane reaches about 5000
feet the flight attendant informs me that she cannot serve drinks as we are descending to our destination. the weird thing is I have not
touched any keys on the keyboard and the food and drink is set to auto anyway. I have done a search and have looked at item 429 which
does not really cover what I am experiencing. I am being hit with 50 penalty points each time this happens. I wonder if any one else has
experienced this problem as well and if there is an answer to it. I am flying a 777-300 VC model if that has any bearing on the problem.

Well, you can try manual serving of food and drinks. Seems they've just started too late

I think you have sussed it Dutch. I am just doing short flights from EGNT to EGLL until I get used to the feel of the plane. I did notice on
yesterdays flight that the trolley service did not start until I was at cruising height e,g FL 250 and there were 347 pax on board. so it would
make sense that as it was just a 45 min flight it would have been hard going to serve that number of pax before I started my descent. I will
change to manual service or failing that start my flight after 20.00 hrs when they should have all been fed and watered. Better still do
longer flights. Thats what I like about this forum some one always comes up with a probable answer to your proplem.

Or you could try using a smaller aircraft: you would never find a 777 doing that stretch on a regular basis..

Sure, but I'm not so sure if there are many a/c of that size flying between Newcastle and London...

I was only using those 2 airports as it was just a short flight in order to get used to the feel of the T7. I know in reality you would not get a
T7 doing a shuttle service between Newcastle and Heathrow. I was having issues with the trim on landing so I wanted to recify
that before I started making Tansatlantic flights. I would not have been a happy bunny if after a long haul flight I got penalty points
because of a bad landing.
