Take off/Landing speeds

Since the update I noticed that my take off and landing speeds have decreased. Did the update do anything to affect this or could I
have changed something in settings and not realised it?

It should'nt have. Perhaps it adjusted some weights on aircraft to more realistic values. This would decrease your various speeds.

Did my first landing after the upgrade, and I noticed that my VS on landing has reduced to 18fpm.

Nice smooth landing, however that's not the most desireable speed in the world... I'd aim more for the -50 to -100FPM mark. At -18FPM,
the pilot flying wouldn't even know when to activate reverse thrust...

don't know if you have the same consign at SWA but I was speaking with a real pilot of airbus
about kiss landing and he told to me that his company advise to avoid them and practice
instead firm landing. (I don't mean rough)

That's right. We love smooth landings (the PAX don't complain either), however if you touchdown at too shallow a rate of descent
(anything less than -50ft/min), you risk possibly not triggering the air/ground sensor. This obviously is not a good thing, and would mean
that many aircraft systems would work as they were still airborne, until the ground crew is able to reset this sensor. The most noticeable
problem would be that the spoilers would not automatically deploy on touchdown.

Southwest doesn't really have any strict limitations regarding descent rate at touchdown (as long as it doesn't damage the gear, or injure
the PAX, it's okay in their book), however as pilots an ideal landing would be in the -100 to -200 ft/min range. This is a hard enough
touchdown to definetly trigger the air/ground sensor, and have a noticeable sensation of landing, however at the same time it's a very soft
landing that the PAX (and crew) will walk away from happily.

Absolutly: too gentle landing may not trigger the spoilers on landing!

Yep, it's a little more complex than just the spoilers (as I mentioned about the air/ground sensor)... a number of things just won't work
right.
