Question -- IFR Clearance

this is a question aimed specifically at Brad of Southwest airlines (user: SWAFO), but any other pilot out there who is an IFR pilot may
answer this too

my question:

do you go through all that IFR Clearance stuff before the passengers board the plane?

I was just wondering because i do it before i start up FS Passengers

I set up the flight plans first..

Start up FsP.. do all the paperworks, while they are still boarding, i request for IFR clearance.

When you say "IFR Clearance stuff", do you mean flightplanning, and cleared routes, or requesting an IFR clearance from Clearance
Delivery?

Route planning is done LONG before the flight, and then immediately before, and during the flight. Normally, we'll request an IFR
clearance from Clearance Delivery when we're just about ready for pushback. Usually, I'd say within 5 minutes of the SET pushback time
(I don't mean planned pushback time, since the actual pushback time can vary considerably, and it's not the best idea to open your
flightplan and let it sit... the controllers are easily confused
