Paro/VQPR is about 150nm west of Lukla, nice scenery at flightsim.com. Alt 7400ft, Rwy length 6500ft.
Sure, it's not really flat, but it should be possible to get a 737 or A320 out of there - at least with good nerves and a little luck

p.s.: I really don't mind if we skip the part with yak butter tea

FYI: my top speed with a commercial jet (A320) at the end of the RW was approx. 65 knots.

We do Paro already before Lukla, right? What about skipping Lukla completely?

I would keep Lukla. If it was only because we are already having some fun. We just have to find some freeware plane that is capable of
both handling the take off and the distance to the next airport. How about that Embraer plane that Ceemos suggested?? Did anyone
tested that plane already on Lukla?

Ahhh, didn't check that. Does that mean we have to land a jet there???
Tried that 3 times last night - No way! Added to the "rocks" there seems to be always dense fog/clouds. Same goes for Lukla and Katmandu.
I'll have to make sure I don't miss any of these online flights

Maybe I will add some nav aids to Lukla, it's difficult to find flying through that valley with a 340-600

Just to make it short: There is NO plane BUT DH-6, probably the DH-7, Do-228 or smaller twins that can land or start at lukla.
You need something that can lift-off at around 60 knots and there's not too much around
Furthermore, the standard scenery of lukla looks boring and I don't know how things are happening when some people use the default
airstrip while others use the payware (which is brilliant). Why not fly to an accessible airport instead and after landing there, one could
change planes and do the hop to lukla if one wants to.

List of planes that can make it: DH-6, Do-228, Islander, Shorts Skyvan, An-14, Volparliner (Beech18), DHC-3 Super Otter, Pilatus Porter/Turbo Porter

List of planes that MAY be able to (if you don't care about scared paxes and hefty maneuvres): Trislander (2 out of 3 attempts), Shorts 360, AN-2 (with help from all the gods and you better keep your eyes closed), An-28, PC-12

Good idea! T'is exactly what I am planning at the moment. Lukla was actually an add-on to the original tour. I totally forgot that there had to be a
way to fly there ...and back.

Trouble is: there aren't too many airports in the area which can accomodate a jet. And we already did Katmandu during the last tour...

Carsten, the Captain Sim 727-100 lifted off at Lukla without a hitch Of course I didn't have it loaded down full of paxs, which I will sacrifice
in order to get a decent liftoff. BUT, I have to land there before I can take off again, so I suppose the trusty old Caravan will have to do.

Don't make the caravan too heavy or you run into probs...and I found out that you have to be "hanging on the power" to make a decent
landing but then it's a piece of cake

P.S. My new hardware will arrive soon so the next saturday (22.12.2006) you can watch me struggling with technology

I think a Pilatus PC-12 would have no problem with Lukla. Pilatus Porter is a shoe-in.
