Audacity, a free audio editor, shows to be compatible with 98/ME/2000/XP. Could it also work with windows Vista? If not is there a
freeware audio editor that someone knows about that could be used to create and use sound files for fsp?

Yes Audacity, is compatible with Vista, I have it and it works great.

There is a program that you can create voice packs it is included in fsp, i believe.

IMHO you need a few things to record a voice pack.
1. A very quite place in which to record, the mic that I had recorded the sound of the fans in the computer and retouching in Audacity while a technique led to inconsistent voice across multiple samples. 2. A good mic. I have a cheap set of Logitech headsets that I can use either on my desktop or my laptop when I am on the road. I wanted a plug an play for Skype use to save money on cell phone bills; international calls are really expensive. While good for telephone quality I think if I had a high quality electric mic for my PC plugged into the sound card I could have done better. 3. Windows Vista just seems to be less friendly than Windows XP when it comes to audio. I don't know maybe it is just me but audio under Vista is not as deep and full spectrum sounding as Windows XP and this may also include recordings as well. I think some of the bass in my voice did not get recorded. I also had to be very careful when recording anything with an "S" to avoid spikes in the audio. If I could hook my David Clarks into my home PC I would attempt recording through them as what could be closer to reality then through a real Aviation Headset mic? But trying to get the impedance right would cause much headache. Best of luck on recording audio.

Indeed you can get your A/C headsets into computers, as can you get Ipod headphones into A/C (although they're useless with no mike,
and length wise pretty dodgy...)

I never said you said it couldnt be done... infact if anything my post made it appear I was agreeing with you... hence the "Indeed"

........dont try it at home... or on the roads...or with people nearby....Only if you know what your doing, and its been approved by police and is "supervised" No problem, I guess I just misinterpreted what you were saying.... and also I cant say I would see anyone hacking up my headset... (if they wanted to continue living...)
