FPS frustrations, oh boyo

Do you not understand??? Press CTR+ALT+DEL and then click on processes, alot of important stuff that you should not delete.

Trust me, I know what I'm doing when it comes to the computer processes. Like I said, I don't have a lot of superfulous process/programs running, I
don't go willie-nillie turning off SYSTEM processes. My computer boots with very bare minimums of things running in the background.

What I wanted to know from this thread was if there was anything that I might have missed that is common knowledge that would help me get better
FPS's. Maybe a setting in FS2004 that is set that restricts FPS's. Or, like a really good piece of advice, not having FS2004 adjust my anti-alias'ing,
but have my video card do it.

Normally I have pretty good FSP. I have my rates clamped off at 35 FPS and I normally get 30-34 FPS while flying around even in dense
clouds, but when I'm landed at say KDEN it drops to about 15-20 FPS. That's still good enough to be a smooth ride and I don't mind. But
certain scenery sets like KPHX and KLAX (really complex scenery) the FPS can drop to 5-10 sometimes and that can get stuttery. The
only way I've found to up the FPS at those airports is to drop the scenery complexity slider to sparse, but of course then all the pretty stuff
in the scenery drops out.

I've been here and tried most of the tweaks, but nothing seems to help much so far. (I don't have a complex BIOS and most of the BIOS
options they talk about are not present in my system)

I'm not comfortable turning off stuff like system restore though, its saved my butt a few times.

Kinda curious as to why my system info reports the dual 3.06 to 3.07Ghz processor speed, as far as I know, (And I've looked) I don't have
dual processors...


[Edit] I think the dual speed report comes from Intel's "Hyperthreading" technology built into P4 processors...

Dual CPU's are useless for games, Id go with an AMD setup for games though.

I ave hundreds of processes running in my computer which has payware I can't get rid of but the performance is still good.

Well, i went through their hints and tips, applied them all but for me they all made fs9 perform slower, a lot slower. So i disabled them all again
and now it's running smooth again.
Ok, for some, these tips might work but be sure you make backups of everything before you apply any of the 'patches' they recommend... To be honest, i
think that site is a waste of time...

I agree, most of the stuff on FS tweaks did nothing for me... The only REAL things that ever work for me:


1.) Keep the inside of the computer CLEAN and free of dust. This avoids overheat problems which come up a lot on newer/faster
computers.

2.) Protect yourself from ADWARE and SPYWARE which hog a lot of system resources without your knowledge. Get a good copy of anti-
spyware program/s. I recommend Ad-aware Pro/SE and Spyblaster. You can Google em up.

3.) Keep your registry free of errors and extra temp / junk files off of your hard drive. Good utility for this is Ace Utilities.

4.) Defragment that hard drive with a good defragment program. Heck, MS default tools is better than nothing.

5.) If none of those work, look into upgrading the amount of onboard memory your system has. (RAM) 1-2 GB is much better than 512K.

Well, I solved my problem. Bought and installed a nVidia 7800GT yesterday. Everything works just fine now. Have all settings set to highest and the
view distance at default. Also have 4x AA and 4x AF and I'm getting between 25-25 FPS. The main thing though, is it's smooth as glass. Like someone
said earlier, it's not the FPS, but the smoothness.

Thanks for those who helped out. I do have to say that being an ATI fan for the past couple years, my experience mainly with their 9X00 series, I'm
pretty dissappointed with the newer x800gt pcie16 card. I was literally getting the same performance as my 9700pro. The 7800gt, albeit a high end
card, so far as produced the numbers I'd expect. I can't recommend it yet, as I haven't used it enough, but initial reaction is pretty wow.

My computer has far too much trash running but I don't know what any of it does and I don't want to f*** anything up. It has as many as 50 processes
going. Mostly spyware probably. Who knows...I know some is spyware, Aurora for one. But my flight simulator gets OK framerates but stutters somewhat
when changing views.

I've got it back to 35 processes atm and had some irritating stutters too.
The weird thing , after changing the refresh frequentie from 100 to 85 the stutters are gone.

Here it would be able to reach easily 30 fps or more but i locked it down to 18 fps. In that way it's still smooth but it leaves enough processing
power for other tasks like dealing with the scenery. It's no use at all to have the fps at a too high setting, you won't see the difference, it only
will cause stutters because all fs is doing is trying to get as much fps as possible.
Besides that, recently new drivers for the nvidia were released and they did wonders on my pc.....

thats a little high, try shutting some stuff down, go to run and then type msconfig, then in the startup page unselect some stuff that you really dont
need starting up.
