Two FSP problems for me

i'm experiencing a couple of little problems with fspassengers:

first one is about transition altitude: i changed it from the standard 18000ft to the Italian 6000ft. since i fly quite only over italy, but i think
that option is quite useless because Flight simulator uses always the USA standard 18000ft. Example: i'm flying at 25000ft and i'm asked to descend to
9000ft. Both flight levels are above transition altitude (which is 6000ft, but 9000 is lower than the standard 18000) so the altimeter should be
always set on 29.92, but when i reach 9000ft the ATC keeps hurring me to descend to 9000ft and i have to press B to set the altimeter "correctly". Is
it possible to override the standard USA transition alt in flight sim in order to use correctly the one set in FSP?

the second problem is about switching applications with FSP running: when i switch back to flight simulator, the on-screen mini report can not be
moved around screen no more. The only way i can do it is to close and re-open the mini report from the FSP menu. Is it normal or is it a little bug?

As long as you use FS ATC, transition altitude will be 18000ft, correct me if I'm wrong. I don't know the advantage of changing the
transition altitude in FSP if you are using FS ATC.

Martyn, I believe you're right. FS9 recognizes the transition altitude as FL180 WORLD WIDE. You can change it in FSP to avoid a penalty,
however you may receive penalties seperate from FSP in FS9 (cancelled flight plans, etc.) for leveling off at the wrong altitude, and the
like.

You have to cheat a little at FS ATC. Say your local TA is 6000ft and FS ATC tells you to "descend 9000, QNH 30.20", if you level at 9000 with
your altimeter set to 29.92 you'd be too high and ATC asks you to continue your descent. So leave your setting at standard pressure and
descend to 8800. FSP is happy and ATC will clear you further down. It might not be exactly your target but there's some tolerance margin
for FS ATC.

I have noticed the tolerance with FS ATC. Kind of a pain in the ass when FS ATC clears you to a certain altitude in the climb (not your end
of climb altitude), and then you have to temporarily "level off" (when I say "level off" I mean nose down a little) to get clearance to a higher
altitude. Sometimes I've found I can climb right through that altitude, other times I've got to level off. Just one of the many glitches in FS's
imperfect ATC system

True! That's why I usually set cruise altitude initially and just acknowledge ATC assignments. Works most of the times. But if for example
ATC hands you off just 100ft below the step climb altitude and the time it takes for the next controller to answer, you may have climbed 500ft
or so, then you'll have to descend or you won't get cleared to continue. Hate that!

Also it depends a lot on what rate you're climbing at. Seems ATC can't keep up with me when I'm climbing in the 3-4000FPM range (in
terms of altitude clearances).

What I usually do to counter that is, if flying offline, set my alititude hold (if I'm using it) to about 500 feet above what they cleared me to.
Usually with about 200 feet to go, they'll tell me to keep going and that gives me just enough time to adjust it.

hmm.. i see...everyone here has his own method to work around this problem, so i guess there's no way to override the deafult FS9 setting.. it's a
shame because that FSP feature is really nice and adds realism to the flight...

These are the sort of issues I am hoping the next version of MFS will deal with, amongst other things like ATC giving directions by VOR
and the like. I think it's just to simplistic compared to real flying. What do you think?

Maybe, but then it's soo much better than it ever was!

And with FsP, it's nearing perfection!
