Don't forget airport congestion: a A380 take less space on a tarmac than two aircrafts. It's the main reason why Japan is using 747 on
domestic flight.

I'm pretty sure A380 has a future. But the first crash will be costly...

Well I have just returned from a trip to VHHH in real life and after expecting a B777 ended up with a A330, OK so the bitch of a sister in law( No
problems she wont be looking at this web site (even if she knew how)) took a window seat and i saw jack %^$% of VHHH . I saw no monumental diff
erence between the two. As was alluded to - it got me there safely and returned in the same order.

IMHO there are several things to look at on that topic..
1) AB are about 20-30% vore expensive (brand new) than their Boeing competitors. That is because the Euro/USD ratio and the different taxes and sotial
policy in the origining countries. Despite that they show the good sales. This can mean only one thing - they MUST be about 50% more efficient - in
the various meanings.
2) AB seems to be the only brand to offer the modern new planes in the long to medium range 300 seats segment. They have started with the highly
successful A300 which have practically killed the overseas competitors' 767/MD11 due to the more efficiency, lower cost of ownership and MUCH more
comfort and keep walking in that direction (see A300 -> A330 -> A350). Boeing's fortes were the Hub-Hub giants segment (Finally Europe have paybacked
them with 744 for Concorde) and the medium range narrow body segment, where the 737 series have followed the previous de-facto standart 727. But the
737, despite the deep modernisation since the first years of production, is the old plane. It's philosophy is not as perfect now as it was when it
have flew for the first time. That makes the place for the more advanced and (see p.1) crafts.

As long as I can see, both producers have declared War on the competitor's field: AB with the A380 Hubto Hub and Boeing with their Dreamliner program.
The old 'conflict' on the 737/A319-321 field is still far from the end (and as a result, we, as the final users have more comfortable, more safe and
more pleasurable flights for less cost).
