I got confused which threads I had what going on in so, here's yet another!
I did the TTools test and it would not decompile the trafficdemo.bgl file.
But, it WAS in the right place.
Afcad was useless because I couldn't find any bgls to open and it locks on FS9.
However, I DID find the deal with the graphics. Basically, I went in and set up everything AS IF it were FS9. This meant removing the
ground and sea traffic, reducing the water textures to 2x min (still nice, just no reflections). Also, I pulled the terrain mesh to 38 and
textures to 1m. With this, I was able to bring complexity up to Dense and autogen to normal and still got 30 FPS. Setting ALL scenery
sliders to full right then produced 25 FPS, while turning ground traffic to 25% (all) held around 15-18, still manageable. This was with
cloud draw distance at minimum and detail radius at medium. The water textures between 2x min and 2x max make a huge difference,
both in frame rates and in visual stimulation.
Anyway, this was a way to set details to around what FS9 has and get the same
frame rates. Makes sense, as FS9 doesn't have that kind of detail in the water AND doesn't add all those ground vehicles.
I'm still guessing that a faster processor is in my system's future, to handle the higher level detail. The graphics card is more than
enough.
I still can't find the right thing to change to "1" to see the co-pilot. There's a line called "VirtualCoPilot" I think, in the FSX.cfg file but, it was
already set to 1.
Did the CRJ approach mission. That would be nice if ALL free flights were like that - co-pilot handled radios; co-pilot called out landing
checklist (didn't look for me to respond, set and check everything, though). Oh yeah, I finally got the welcome on touchdown. Again, must
be the missions but, I hope they have ore detail in the standard flights.
I wonder, though, if the gated airports are such a big deal in the promos, why they didn't give us a demo airport with gates (meaning,
jetways, etc.). Oh well, October will come soon enough.
