Great Idea: It would be great to add applause for landing

And if you look at it that way, it's not surprising that it doesn't happen on national flights, like in the US. On a business trip from Munich to
Hamburg you won't hear applause either.

It's indee mostly like this and applause are quite exceptionals in daily flights however on the four times I have seen it. two where in short range
business flights
Air Inter Paris-Marseille
Lufthansa Stuttgart-Paris

And after all Is n't the landing something anyone can make an evaluation? What do we need to score how smotth was a landing ?

I flown several time in europe and in the whole world the only time I heard that was after
a landing in really bad weather at helsinki.

that's not so common and I bet this would minimize the pleasure of having
applause after a REALLY bad flight (with failure)

I cant remember a flight where the passengers havent applauded after a landing, aprt from one, which was a truley awful landing in Gran Canaria, he
bounced a few times, but all the others they clap.. its just common curtesy in most of the world....

Common curtesy? Most of the World? I won't argue, but I am highly doubtful.
The nail was hit on the head with "Clueless charterflight vacation cattle in a party modd = applause at landing".

I have only heard it happen twice. Once while flying into Denver on an Air Whisky flight where we were on a parallel with 2 other jets (and our tiny
CRJ2 was not all that happy with the turbulance on appraoch).
The seconds was while flying in to Puerto Vallarta(sp?) on an AMX flight where more than 1/2 was cabin was drunk before touchdown (note, no 'drinks'
were severd on the flight. LAX has great bars .
I think it's fine as it is.
To each his own however.

I've seen applause when:

1. Speedbird 747 got hit by cross-wind on landing, caused aircraft to tip dangerously on touchdown, almost hit an engine - much applause after. (same
aircraft also had problems leaving Montreal due to weather and a "problem" with one reverse thruster).

2. Air Canada L1011-500 on touch-down in Edmonton after doing a missed approach due to a problem with the flaps. High-speed landing, with fire
equipment lining the runway - after stopping, much applause. Informed aircraft this flight was terminating in Edmonton (it should have carried on to
Vancouver)

3. British Airways Trident on touch-down at London Heathrow after being told that the landing had been done completely automatic by the onboard computers

4. Empress DC-8 on touchdown in Amsterdam ater a long flight, delayed four hours to start - applause probably because they were finally there
