In Flight Problem

Folks,

I have a question about an in flight problem which occurred on one of my flights.

Whilst departing Dublin RWY 10 I selected gear up on my PMDG 737-700 and I was somewhat dismayed to discover that they faield to
come up all of the way. They retracted about 90% of the way and refused to budge. I tried lowering the gear manually to no avail. So, I
declared an emergancy and came back around for a safe landing on 10. Everybody survived and it cost £loads to repair.

My question is: should I have declared a may day or should I have continued to my destination (Düsseldorf) and declared an emergancy
there? Maybe the gear would have dropped down in flight? What would a real pilot have done?

Turn around to land was the right action. In real life you might have caused more problems by carrying on with the flight. A gear emergency is not
something to take lightly... afterall, on most airplane, it's linked to the hydraulic system.

i would of carriad on flight and found the next airport somtimes if there nearly down or showing on impact of runway they budge and lock into place.

But if the gear won't retract, chances are it is a hydraulic problem, which will mean you may soon have an almost unflyable aircraft with gravity
extend only on the gear and no flaps. I can guarantee that FSP will shout more about that landing than it will about turning back and landing while
you still have hydraulic pressure!

today i got the same problem. plane fully loaded and after take-off, when trying to retract the gear my co-pilot said they were stuck.
What's the best thing to do? return and land with a heavy plane or continue?

Very true! In reality, WE'D NEVER sacrifice safety to simply arrive at a destination on time. A gear failure is up pretty high in it's level of
severity. As Phil mentioned, it's not something to take lightly!

I seem to recall a British airline having a problem with an engine in a 747. They had to shut down the engine, but flew from LAX to England on only
three engines. They did catcha lot of flak about it.
