Light Penalty

Hi guys

i've set the light penalty to "realistic". everytime after a flight, i get penalties because of wrong use of the different lights. could you please
tell me, what's wrong in the following points:

1. turn on beacon
2. turn on the navigation-light
3. turn on the engine power
4. talk to the atc - request clearance
5. taxi to the runway
6. short stop before entering the runway: here, i turn on the landing light and the strobe-light
7. roll to the runway, flaps-setting, take off.
8. at 10'000 feet, i turn off the landing lights.
9. at descending, a turn on the landing lights at 10'000 feet
10. i turn off the strobe and landing lights a few seconds after quitting the runway.
11. at the gate, i set the parking brakes, switch off the power enginges
12. turn off the navigation light
13. turn off the beacon light

is there something wrong? many thanks for your help.

fsp tells me, that it's kind of a bad skill to forget tuning off the strobe and landing lights at the gate... but i've already turned them off after quitting the runway!

Check the config file for your aircraft. It it's not a default plane more than one of the light switches may be non-operational while another
switch controls more than one light. Other than that, your procedure seems spot-on. Anyone else have an idea?

here we go... my flight report. i used the light-switches as posted above. i made my flight with a fs9 standard "Boeing 737-400 Paint2...
and of course, i landed at the right airport! FAIRBANKS, AK. far away from the center airport

*lool* FSP stored my destination as "2Z5" ... Chena River near Fairbanks.

according to that, i think you have put the park brake on somewhere, may not even be at the gate,

if you put the park brake on, fsp belives you are at the gate, so if the landing lights are on, then you will get a penalty

as for the destination pen...
the onlt parking spots which are closer to 2z5 are parking 1, and parking 10, unless you landed on RW1L, came to a stop, and ending the
flight on the rw, therefore being closer to the centre of 2z5

no, i did't pull the park breaks before arriving at the gate. how ever... maybe i've to turn off this penalty. i don't know what's wrong with this
one...

Looking at your penalty... I have been penalized as well....

Do not turn on your strobe or landing lights until you line up on the runway for take off. Once lined up, then turn them on press Ctrl L
(landing lights toggle), then press O (oh - strobe light toggle).

I haven't found the Taxi Light toggle, other than clicking the panel. I would like to be able to toggle that light without switching views, I fly
VC panels only once in motion and try to avoid the 2D panel unless I cannot get to a control.

Once landed and stopped on the runway, preferrably where you are going to exit, then turn off Landing light and then the strobe and THEN EXIT the runway onto the ramp. Taxi light should already be on and taxi at a speed less than I believe 40 mph.

At 40+, FSP thinks you are trying to take-off or fly, I think I read that somewhere in the FSP environment. Small GA, most of the simplier have a stall speed of 40, ergo the programming, but then Dan could elaborate on his coding.

Hmm, let's try this again.

NAV LIGHTS ON -> Anytime anyone QUALIFIED to fly the aircraft is in the cockpit.
PANEL LIGHTS -> Optional.
BEACON ON -> Prior to turning engines over.
TAXI ON -> Use is optional.
STROBE ON -> BEFORE entering ACTIVE runway.
LANDING LIGHTS ON -> BEFORE entering ACTIVE runway.

LANDING LIGHTS OFF -> After EXITING the ACTIVE runway.
STROBE OFF -> After EXITING the ACTIVE runway.
TAXI -> Optional.
BEACON OFF -> After engine rotation has ceased.

There are quite a few problems with complex payware models. Their lights are working but somehow don't trigger standard FS variables,
that's why FSP doesn't recognize them. I always get a beacon penalty in PMDG 747, even if I turn it on before starting the APU.
In Flight 1's ATR beacon has to be on before starting "hotel mode" (which is understandable because it's just a running engine for FSP).
And there are special cases like Flight 1 Super 80 where the strobe lights are triggered through the nose gear strut and only come on when
the nose gear leaves ground. FSP expects it earlier.
And finally some models have combined switches for beacon and strobes.

There's not much you can do about such exceptions other than disabling realistic light penalties or simply accepting them

Funny thing is, that light penalty is not consistent.

I'm new to FSP. I've done 4 flights, all in the same plane (PIC737). I always use VC, and always use the panel switches. I always turn
the strobes and landing lights on/off at the same "time" on every flight. 3 flights, i got no penalty. 1 flight, i got a "strobe on at the gate"
and a "no landing lights below 10000" penalty. And of course, both of those were not true. Again, i stress my light usage is identical on
EVERY flight on every aircraft i have (exception being the Flight1 MD80 with the strobe switch in the nose gear strut).

I have noticed that light aircraft (props like the Mooney Bravo) even with this realism set, don't get penalty points with wrong use of lights (except
on parking). You can forget landing lights at take off and turn them on at 3000ft and not get penalty.
