Is asking ATC for clearance to go over 250kts at 10.000 just random clearance. Like will I get atc clearance like flights from JFK to Heathrow?

A lot of times I get the clearance, but lately I don't even ask for clearance. I just set auto throttle to 245 (indicated), and climb at a higher Feet
Per Minute. For example, I use the 737-800 (default) a lot, so I set auto throttle to 245, taxi, take-off, then shortly after takeoff I turn on speed hold, altitude hold, VOR lock (GPS), then climb at 3000 Feet Per Minute. You'll still be using a lot of engine power, and with a 3000 FMP climb, you'll be at 10000 no problem, then you can go at whatever speed pleases your need! ![]()

Above 10,000ft you can go as fast as you want.

I thought you need to ask ATC for clearance to go over 250kts at 10.000 just random clearance. Like will I get atc clearance first.

Please reference the above answer to your question. It really is just that simple.

Below 10K feet, to go over 250 KIAS you need to ask for ATC's permission; this is different to ATC route clearance. The rule is there mostly for
heavy jets that have a hard time keeping to 250 KIAS.
