Actually, there's no truth to what he's saying. Macs aren't bashed very much anymore like they used to be. People are starting to realize that they
aren't so bad afterall, especially the computer enthusiasts.

I'm a teacher and I can tell you that most of my colleagues keep a PC in their room for "real" work. We curse the Macs on the kids and IT
guys. I won't even bother with a Mac as a personal. It just doesn't work right. Maybe the new ones with the intel chipsets will work better
but I'm extremely skeptical as yet.

Well here in silicon valley people are just better with computers i guess and more accepting... Hell just the city I live in is home to Adobe, Nvidia, ATI, and Apple (a few miles away).

Put it this way, I have one of each. They sit right next to each other, in harmony. One is a 2 year old custom built watercooled pc, the other is a 3 year old powermac dual g4. I use the pc for games only. When it comes to doing real work, watching movies, or listening to music though, i use the mac. It's a true workhorse. My pc is very reliable, I maintain it. My mac is very reliable, I maintain it.

True, but I hazard to guess how much that costs compared to a PC with comparable power (esp. if you run Linux on it... if I ever get a new computer,
I'll probably run Vista on it and Fedora on this).

At our local Schlotsky's Deli they have 'normal' iMacs to use for free. They crash and die when you load up Safari.

This is really a futile argument. It's all in the eye of the beholder. Those iMacs probably are so badly maintained it doesn't surprise me that they
die when you load safari. But problems like that exist on any public computer.

For college I will be leaving my mac behind, my little brother wants it, as well as my current pc. I plan to build a new SFF pc that I can use to
play games on in my free time and write papers using open office.

I'm not exactly biased here, i have computers from both sides of the fence. I'm just trying to point out both sides of the story as i have a good
deal of experience with both sides. I just really don't like ignorance.
