Watch Out for Those Autoinstallers

I tried de-installing an A340 (freeware) package I haven't ever used, but the darn uninstaller deleted a number of the default gauge files. Now I've
having to de-install everything and re-install to get those gauges back. I'm not using any auto installed package without first backing up the gauges,
sound and effects folders, and I'm pretty doubtful I'll even bother with anything that is autoinstalled at all. Grrrrrrrrrrrr!

What I do is autoinstall to a temp folder then manually put the files in their prospective FS9 folders

Thanks for the suggestion. But OK, here's another question then (and I didn't check before I uninstalled everything). Does your typical freeware plane
with an autoinstaller create entries in the registry? If so, how can you install to a temporary folder, and move the files over? Obviously you can do
this if it doesn't update anything in the registry. Or can you just try the trick of installing to a temp folder, moving the files into FSP, then
uninstalling, clearing the registry in the process (my guess is, this might work for SOME planes, but not all).

So far I haven't seen any that modify the registry. I always install into a temporary folder, then I check the files and folders to see if there is
something to note Then if all is ok, I move the files to their proper place. Sometimes I also write down what files are installed, so I know what
files to remove.
