Mixture, just how lean

When I am flying my Cessna 182s and have reached cruising altitude the checklist says to change the mixture to lean. When I change the mixture I
can’t see any change on the board, no needles move. Just how lean should I go, and how do I tell that I am correctly lean?

If you're leaned out right, the engine will run faster. So if you lean till the rpm needle goes up slightly then lean a little till it goes down
again, you'll get a feel for where it needs to be. Once it drops slightly bring it back up a little to where you had it. Eventually you will be able
to listen to the engine sound and gauge from that.

A great feature of the Beech Bonanza A36.........they've got a lean finder on the panel. You click on it once you level off and it will find the
optimum ratio for you. You then adjust your mixture on the throttle panel accordingly. Any other prop, you can't go wrong with John's advice.

One thing I noticed was that I had automixture turned on in the FS realism settings. So changing the mixture control didn't do anything.
Try turning that off and you will see a difference.

I didn't realize it actually because I haven't flown a prop in ages before FsP. I had been flying the Lear almost exclusively for at least a year prior.

Ah Jets, how I miss them. One day, actually right now I'm having a blast flying the lights to be honest. Once I've got a couple of pilots up to
multi's then they're going off on a Westbound RTW trip together, to promote the airline and (hopefully) get a European division going.

Just a hint:

How you lean the mixture of the small stock-cessnas is explained in the FS2004-Help.

Here a quick explanation:

You set-up the proper mixture of the Cessnas by watching the EGT-needle (somwhere on the left of the panel). As you pull out the mixture-stab (however
it is called), the EGT raises until it reaches a specific peak and then it falls again. The right EGT-setting is shortly before the needle reaches
it's maximum when raising. Hope you understand, what I mean, as far as I know was this procedure also in another thread of this forum explained.
