I've spent some time tweaking my demos settings so that I get a good mix of quality and performance for my system. I'm stressing that because I
want people to realise that before they start flaming saying FSX looks rubbish etc.
My system specs are as follows:
AMD Athlon64 3000+
MSI Socket 754 Motherboard
2x 512Mb RAM
Western Digital Caviar 200Gb IDE HDD
Asus FX5600 256Mb, AGP 8x
Creative SB Audigy 2 Sound.
Obviously FSX is optimised for, and will run better on faster systems, my system is fairly old to be honest
Now that that's out the way, on with the pics!
While playing with the options, I noticed you could change the music that is played during the menu's. I don't know if this was in the original demo.
I found that droping a .WAV file (sorry, no MP3 support
) into FSX/sound/uimusic directory would give you something else to listen to. I can
imagine in most cases it probably would anoy you more, or in my case, leave you rolling on the floor laughing

The two new aircraft they added were the Robinson R22 Helicopter and the Learjet45. Those that prefer using the 2D cockpits are in for a treat with
the lear, with its newer looking cockpit setup. *ahem* Ignore the registration

And those that like the VC's, you can now see through the glass

Now for the graphics, I had big black boxes in place of trees as soon as it loaded up, which cleared up after about a minute or so, a bit too long if
you ask me. The ground and water textures are pretty clear, and the effects work on my setup (In the last demo, they were extremely blurry and had no
effect) Cars also have textures, but unfortunatly, nothing has been done with the landing lights at night.

Mmm lime green!
There is also vehicle traffic at airports. Not that they give way to aircraft! I had a baggage truck go stright through me at the runway threshold.
Crashs weren't enabled when it happened, so I don't know if you would have a reset because of it. Pushback trucks are animated and do push you back!
The feul truck just sat at the feul parking spot, applying the parking brake and shutting the engines off just set my feul back to 100% stright away,
no animation or nothing.
Personally, I think anyone who said they didn't like FSX because of the last demo should give this new one a go before commiting to boycotting it,
it's a fair bit closer to the realease version than the last one, its far more stable, more feature rich, graphically better and faster to generate
them.
Worth a thumbs up
