Flap failures? - sjwk - 07-08-2005

I've had a search for what failure types there are and can't see one that matches this.

I had left the plane on autopilot while I went and got some food and after getting back noticed a light to tell me that flaps were extended. I
was sure I'd retracted them at about 500 feet as usual, but did so again and didn't think much more of it, although expected a penalty for not
doing so before.

Landed and got a 100% satisfied rating, plus a huge negative penalty for: making a serious error, not calling in a mayday, exceeding the
flaps speed. The flaps didn't seem to have been destroyed - certainly they retracted ok.

So, is there a failure that can cause flaps to deploy? If so, why did it flag a pilot error? And since it didn't seem to effect anything, why did it
think a mayday was in order?

I got hit with a -1600 point score for that flight, which has left me over 1000 points in the red - quite a penalty, considering on a perfect flight
with a gentle landing and no problems, I'm only bringing in 250 points...

Steve.

Dunno, had mine stick yesterday half out, but got down okay and heck even did a kiss landing like it. Got around 600 points if I remember
rightly.
