False report of "landing at wrong airport" - ivoryjedi - 04-07-2006

Nothing major to gripe about here, just I noted that one of my flights which landed at YVR (Vancouver) ended up giving me an error that I landed at
CYV2, which is the vancouver heliport right next to the airport, even though I finished at the gate and I landed on the correct runway as per normal.
Could this have to do with scenery overlapping? I'm using the Vancouver 4.2+ available on Flightsim.com.

I know that landing in Anchorage depending on what gate I get assigned I'll get credit for landing at Lake Hood which is all well and good but the pax
don't like it. I imagine that with add-on scenery that you run the risk of the airport and anything nearby might be off just enough for the same
thing to happen. Default Portland OR 28L ILS lines me up for the terminal. Guess it would help with speedy offloads but once again the pax don't
care for it much. If a third party developer were to reallign the airport to fix it I might get credit for landing at the airport accross the river,
who knows. As I'm "based" out of ANC I just park at a "sweet spot" at the RL terminal C so that I get credit for the correct airport.

This has been extensively (and a bit harshly) didcussed in a previous thread.

In summary, when you set your parking brakes at arrival gate FsP checks where is the closest airport CENTRAL POINT. So, although you
landed on the right runway, if your arrival gate is near the edge of a big airport, you can be closer to the center of a smaller neigbour small
airport than to the center of the large airport you are actually paked at..

On the image below, you willsee how easy it is to park closer to LHD center than PANC center while beeing however on PANC
[Image: PANC-vi.jpg]

Fortunately the default MS GPS works exactly like FsP. Then prior to choose a gate to unboard, you can check on the GPS if FsP will see
you at the right airport:

Here I am on northern edge of PANC but GPS and FsP "see" me at Z41 => I won't unboard there !!!

Here, still at PANC but close to the center, GPS and FsP indeed see me then at PANC => safe place to unboard

Morality: Make some concession over realism, open the GPS and choose wisely your gate Wink

I decided not to record the flight since I was concerned I had screwed something up. Next time I'll just take the points hit and keep the cash!
Thanks for the info!
