Why does this happen? - 2RIP - 12-06-2006

After passing 10,000 ft, you should be able to request passing 250kts right? Well how come 'sometimes' I'm at 14,000ft and send requests, the atc
commands me to keep it at 250kts.

after you pass 10K, you don't need to ask them. There aren't any speed restrictions over 10K. Wink But it also depends on what aircraft you are flying.
If you are in a 747, you can exceed 250knots below 10K becuase of your clean speed.

Re: Why does this happen? - 2RIP - 12-06-2006

yes, i exceed 250kts after 10,000ft anywys, but if you press shift+3. you will declare to exceed 250kts. Then they will reject your request. Don't
know why

Re: Why does this happen? - captain_crunch - 12-06-2006

Because shift+3 requests faster than 250kts, it doesn't declare it. In other words, if you WANT to go faster than 250kts below
10000ft you have to ask permission from ATC and this is what shift+3 does. Once above 10000ft you don't need to ask. What should
really happen is that the FO should say something like 'errr.. we don't need to do that captain, we're already above 10000ft' but FSP
doesn't have that feature at the moment. It just carries on as if you were below 10000ft so sometimes you'll get permission, sometimes
you won't.

captain crunch the survey says: WRONG!

After you pass 10K if you press Ctrl+Shift+3 again it will ask for clearence for busting the 250kts rule on your decent Wink

Re: Why does this happen? - captain_crunch - 12-06-2006

Your right y'know! lol

I'm stupid

Still, i guess if you'd just passed 10000ft you wouldn't ask ATC for >250 clearance unless you needed to make an emergency decent, in
which case you'd be saying different things to ATC anyway! So maybe my copilot idea could work in FSP under certain circumstances,
say too early into cruise or above 30,000ft.

Anyway, it's too early in the morning for me lol
