Brakes and Take-off Power - Yoda - 24-07-2005 In the King Air (as in other turboprops), the proper standing take-off technique involves moving the power levers forward to the point where the props are on the speed governors, so that when the brakes are released, you've got reasonably equal thrust from the engines. Not doing this almost always leads to a waggling start to the take-off roll as you dance on the rudder pedals to compensate. Whenever I do this, I get a penalty that says it's not a good idea to go to full power while on the brakes. Is there a way to turn this off? Post Edited ( 07-24-05 02:11 ) Re: Brakes and Take-off Power - PaulAH - 24-07-2005 That'd be good actually. I get this penalty on Concorde just starting an engine on the ramp. Re: Brakes and Take-off Power - Ryanamur - 24-07-2005 No, you can't disable that one. My advise is to disengage the parking brake and to use the normal brakes. I'll add the request in the development forum. Phil Post Edited ( 07-24-05 02:22 ) Re: Brakes and Take-off Power - SWAFO - 24-07-2005 Sometimes, on short runways when we're heavy (happens at MDW quite a bit), we'll keep the brakes applied until the engines stabilize at 40% N1, so that we can get that extra "jolt" of initial acceleration, and takeoff with high gross, and a short runway. We won't keep the parking brakes on though... that wouldn't be too good. We do what Ryanamur mentioned... apply foot pressure, and release when we're ready. Try that. Re: Brakes and Take-off Power - DanSteph - 24-07-2005 this penalty is disabled for turpoprop in the next version and I'll add an option in "more_option.cfg" to disable it for people that flight special aircraft. Dan Re: Brakes and Take-off Power - Ryanamur - 24-07-2005 Dan, it might be a good idea to also disable it for pistons! Phil |
