Float Planes! - Gdoody - 19-07-2005

Testing has completely passed, and I am now the proud pilot of numerous passengers, and working hard to improve my piloting skills,
which I must say I have discovered are rather atrocious.

This week I decided to emulate a harbour run on a beechcraft float plane from Vancouver Harbour to Victoria, BC. After loadign up the
plane, and getting everything set up, I went to start FSPassengers, only to discover that I cannot create an FSP flight because float planes
don't have parking brakes. Logical .... yes. But then I got to thinking some more, and I recall a post from a beta tester saying to drop off
FSP Passengers in the middle of the lake - pulling up to shore would jostle them .... (in the Tips section), and thus have come to the
conclusion that flying a float plane, and using FSP must be possible. Can anybody advise on how I can do this without having a parking
brake!

Oh - and to share a good story - FSP has encouraged me to reset all my keyboard commands to either off, or to have a Ctrl or Shift in front
of them. I was on a 3 hour journey from St. John's to Toronto this past week, went to hit the F9 key (open FSNav) missed and hit F8
(Flaps) at 280 Kts. End result - destroyed the flaps, and ran off then end of the runway in Toronto. My friend who was flying with me has
threatened to never let me live it down. I told him to buy a copy and show me he could do better. He has done so .... now the war is on!
One more customer for Dan!

Many Thanks!

I've done that before myself, it sucks. Luckily before FSP and all I got was nudged up a couple of thousnd feet.

Well, if a pilot is stupid enough to grab the flaps lever instead of the start button of his GPS, I suppose a set of destroyed flaps and an
overrun runway is rather cheap price to pay as long as everyone survived, lol
Oh, and I think the FAA will come to see you lol

Isn't there a way to set a line in the cfg to make it have a parking brake?

Re: Float Planes! - jboweruk - 19-07-2005

Ah yes, but in a real plane the flaps lever is not right next to the start button on the gps now is it lol

Re: Float Planes! - Gdoody - 21-07-2005

I would also add that in a real plane, much of the levers are not combined into a 1/2 foot X 1 1/2 foot keyboard ... much easier to make an
error that way. That said, since I don't typically use the keyboard for flying....I simply disabled all of the flight control keyboard commands,
thus leaving more room for addons such as FSNav, FSPassengers etc.

I never thought about adding a parking brake via the config file .... will have to see if that is doable. If so, I will post an update back here.
