Crash of FS9 every single time... - SpectroPro - 09-07-2005

I have installed the demo version of FSP. I have a 3.1ghz pentium 4 dual processor with 800mhz fsb. ATI 9800 Pro with 128megs. System ram is 2
gigs. 4 TB hard drive space on 6 drives. Running FS9 with 9.1 upgrade. Works like a dream. That is until I installed FSP. Now, as soon as I click
on fly now button, fs9 crashes. No error message. Just hangs for a couple minutes, then stops with the normal XP error message. I have uninstalled
FSP, killed the dll, and reinstalled. Same thing. Any help on this would be wonderful. Good thing I got the demo before buying. That would have
really irked me off. hehe

Thanks!

Do me a favour, select a different plane and a different ICAO and try it again reason I ask you this is because you just MIGHT have a "faulty" default ( the default you allocated) plane model. I have had that happen to me once and fixed it like this.

Re: Crash of FS9 every single time... - SpectroPro - 09-07-2005

Still crashes. I noticed however, that with FSP installed, the crash occurs every time, no matter the plane or airport, at:

Loading Terrain 33% (in california anywhere) and 36-42% anywhere else in the world....

If I uninstall, it works just fine.

Hmmm I have to think about this one, suggestions anyone ?

Re: Crash of FS9 every single time... - nullbeach - 09-07-2005

I suggest to reset defaults via: Start - Microsoft games - Microsoft Flightsimulator 2004 - Troubleshooting - Reset defaults
And then give it a try!

Re: Crash of FS9 every single time... - DanSteph - 09-07-2005

35 peoples tested it without crash ... it might be the start flight
did you tried the demo flight of FsP ?

Dan

Re: Crash of FS9 every single time... - SpectroPro - 09-07-2005

Ok...been testing. I have tried the default flight. Same problem. I have tried all sorts of scenerios, planes, locations, settings, etc.. Same
results. Uninstall and the sim works perfectly. Reinstalled for the 5th time. Same problem with crash. I renamed the dll module. Sim loads just
fine. I cna even load the demo flight. Of course, no fsp anything.

Thus, my findings is that my dll is corrupted or has a problem with something else I have installed. I am not your normal simmer...I have over 100
add-on packages installed. You should have had me on the beta team. Cool

Anyways, how should we proceed? Do you want a list of all my modules? Let me know, I'll get it to you.

Re: Crash of FS9 every single time... - bushsimmer - 09-07-2005

when i get into one of these kinds of looped crashes this is what I do:

uninstall fspassengers, then make sure there is (1) NO fspassengers directory in the fs9, (2) NO "fspassengers.dll" in the module folder

rename your present fs9 to "9". (this will hide your REAL fs9 for now). go to your "c:\Documents and Settings\{yourcomputername}
\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9
" and rename it to ---FS9 (this is so you dont lose all your working settings when you finish
troubleshooting.

reinstall fs9 & the 9.1 patch. run fs9 to make sure it works good.

reinstall the fspassenger demo.

if it still crashes your sim., then the bug is in the program working with your system & sim. [then we gotta find out why it doesnt like your
rig)

if it doesnt crash your sim then there is something in your REAL sim (now called "9") that doesnt wanna go to bed with fspassengers.
whatever happens, uninstall fspassengers, then delete this temporary setup of fs9. rename your "9" directory to fs9 (or whatever it was
called) & go back to "c:\Documents and Settings\{yourcomputername}\Application Data\Microsoft\" delete the FS9 directory that was built & rename "---FS9" back to FS9.

believe me it probably took me longer to write these instructions then it will for you to carry this out.

let us know what happens.

Re: Crash of FS9 every single time... - SpectroPro - 09-07-2005

Well, short of reinstalling fs9, which I have done over 20 times in the past year, thus, NOT doing it again... I have tried some more things...

I reset all my scenery to default settings. The error that is being sent to MS is that the offending module is the scenery.dll module. Don't get
excited, it is not really this module. I deleted it, installed a fresh one. Same thing. I deleted it and got one from a friend that is using FSP
with no problems at all, and installed that one. Same thing. I remove the fsp dll and my flight sim works just fine. I am tending to think that
it's the fsp dll conflicting with another dll I may have and the scenery dll is taking the heat for some reason. Thus, some more testing.. I will
run a series of tests removing other dll's that are NOT stock to see if I can find the culprit. If I do, rest assured you will get full details along
with all the info needed for others.

In the mean time, I hope someone else may have a thought on this. Really hacking me off to hear all my friends (on teamspeak) laughing their butts
off while flying 737's upside down at the passengers.... This simply is NOT fair!!!!!!!

Side note: I am a beta tester for Atari, Ubisoft, and several other software companies. Testing is second nature to me...so I know the methods to
use... I will figure this out if it kills me... or forces me to smash the computer across the room a few times... Cool

Re: Crash of FS9 every single time... - bushsimmer - 09-07-2005

i hear what you're saying there, greg.
hmmmm.... (that;s me scratching my head).
if you actually think there might be a dll conflict - in a pm send me & dan a list of the dll's in your modules directory.
i'm trying to figure what kind of "scenery" conflict there could be.
i have a lot of addon scenery,....& those that have dll specific dependency i can count on one hand, for now, like the vistamare.dll
and some lago stuff, like fse that imports a couple of dlls in your sim. trying to think what else it could be.

i'm also beta-testing some modules that havent conflicted with fspassengers. have all of the rxp and flight1 dll's for their software, no conflict. no active camera, asv, fsnav, ez-landmark, fsuipc, etc. conflicts. just wondering what could be munging your rig when it comes to fspassengers.

are you using Just Pilot's Airliner Pilot? or maybe kupfernagel's airliner environment? i dont hav those, so i dont know if they place a dll in the sim (either in the home directory of the sim, the modules directory itself, or embedded in its own directory).
i'm just grabbing at straws here for something that might generate a solution.

might have to use ockham's razor instead of my earlier attempt by using the slashing solution to the gordian knot.

there's something in your rig that isnt happy with the fspassengers.dll at all.
we'll figure it out.

Re: Crash of FS9 every single time... - Stringfellow - 09-07-2005

FYI: During testing, I did fresh installs with every upgraded version to the next and never even kept my company files. Early on, there were
a couple of times I had to reload(not install) FS to recognize a plane purchase, but that later fixed. But I never had a crash. I've got several
add-ons as well. I can't say that I have a 100 though. It sounds like a conflict problem maybe. I've come across only one plane that won't
work in FsP but it is not payware.

I have been flying with Just Flights Airliner Pilot with no problems at all.

One last things to try would be to clear your browser cache and retry to
download a fresh copy of FsPassengers (or download the ziped version available on download)

Doing this we'll ensure it's not a problem with a corrupted file...
after I'll get in touche with you to see what's wrong...
