problem with landing - Langston Williams - 09-12-2006 I hear 50,40,30,20,....10 i flare but the landing scares the passengers do you have any idea how to make a nicer landing Re: problem with landing - Ceemosp - 10-12-2006 Very general question but one thing I can see right there...you flare too late....when you hear 10 and start to flare your aircraft will be about 1 foot or two from the runway when the flare will actually take effect. Depending on the type flaring should begin around 30 feet (with a 747) or a little less. Your airspeed is also an important factor. You should closely watch the approach speed. If you are too slow your wings will not generate enough lift - even with ground effect. Don't pull the power back to idle too early. The correct moment is WHEN you main wheels touch the runway, NOT before (airbus triggers the "retard" message with switches on BOTH maingears on the A320). You may want too look at surclaro's website - they have nice "short manuals" for many FS9 aircraft which have the relevant speed and flap settings included. Does the flight report say why the pax were not happy? Re: problem with landing - FsP Dennis - 10-12-2006 I think it's the seatbelt as you said Drew. Re: problem with landing - Ceemosp - 10-12-2006 Hmmmpf...if you try to flare - let's say a 767 - at 10ft your landings will mimick those of a F-18 performing a carrier landing by night ! You then wouldn't need any airstairs as your passengers would be able to leave the plane lying with it's belly on the ground and the gears sticking out of your wings ![]() Re: problem with landing - DSW334 - 10-12-2006 or perhaps the combination of autobraking and reverse thrusts? That sometimes happens to me where the passengers got scared because of the excessive G-forces.. Re: problem with landing - calumd - 10-12-2006 Quote:I hear 50,40,30,20,....10 i flare but the landing scares the passengers do you have any idea how to make a nicer landing one the subject, what does "retard" mean when the aircraft has touched down? cheers Re: problem with landing - Ceemosp - 10-12-2006 "Retard" means to pull back the throttles beyond "flight idle" to the "ground idle" setting. This message is actually telling you that you are put on the ground. They are triggered the same moment the reverse thrust is enabled (but not activated) and the speedbrakes/spoilers are deployed if you have autospoiler on. The next step would be to apply reverse thrust as neccessary. Regards Carsten Re: problem with landing - Langston Williams - 10-12-2006 i turns out the passengers we irritated by gs but the landing was only-200vft im confussed Re: problem with landing - Ceemosp - 11-12-2006 Well....you probably tried to rip the yoke out of the panel when you pulled on the yoke like a madman ![]() If you try to reduce you vertical speed in too little time by pulling the yoke back too fast, you are generating g's as if a fighter pilot would pull a tight turn - it's just not in the horizontal direction but vertical - or as if you ride a rollercoaster and you hit the compression at the foot of the fall. Even worse if you try to force the aircraft down (pushing the yoke forward) as the positive G's are harder to bear than negative. Solution: Flare ealier, be easy on the stick when doing so and let the aircraft sink onto the runway. If things don't look right, go around ![]() Regards Carsten Re: problem with landing - calumd - 11-12-2006 Ceemosp cheers for the info MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY! Re: problem with landing - Langston Williams - 11-12-2006 thanks Re: problem with landing - BenG - 16-12-2006 Retard means what it says - "Slow" - So when the Bob or Betty starts belting (small word change) "RETARD" commence you roll-out procedures to slow the plane down i.e. lower the nose, deploy revsers etc... Re: problem with landing - Ceemosp - 16-12-2006 Quote:BenG wrote: Where did you get that piece of - unfortunately - wrong information ? The callout "retard" refers ONLY to the throttles....nothing about lowering nose, reverse or whatever. In this article you can read about the procedures for Airbus, especially about the retard callout and retarding the levers when passing threshold (or sometime not ![]() Regards Carsten |
