Lowering insurance costs - Launchbury - 19-10-2006 Everything on my poor Cessna 172 is falling apart. On my first flight the right brakes failed and I nearly skidded off the runway. On my latest flight the right fuel tank had a major leak and I sputtered into my destination with about 1 gallon left in the whole plane. Now I ask: Is it possible to lower your insurance rates over time? Because every single time part of my Cessna gets bored of work and quits I have to take money from the insurance company which raises my rates. I already pay a ludicrous sum of money for car insurance in real life, I don't need this hassle in the virtual one! :P Re: Lowering insurance costs - Dutch64 - 19-10-2006 Better not use insurance money to pay your bills (unless really necessary). Otherwise everytime your insurance costs will go up indeed. Re: Lowering insurance costs - BenG - 19-10-2006 Will they go down at all? I've just splashed all my cash on a new Caravan (well new to me) and I had a fuel tank leak on my 1st fligght. So I had to use the insurance. Re: Lowering insurance costs - Dutch64 - 19-10-2006 Yes, it will drop but very, very slowly. So, try to avoid using insurance for your costs as much as possible Re: Lowering insurance costs - Launchbury - 19-10-2006 My insurance started out at %4.32 and after my first flight I used insurance on a brake repair, raising my rates to %6.32. At the end of my eigth flight my inurance rate is now %5.72. I suppose it goes down %0.10 per flight that you do not use it. In light of that, I should have taken the insurance money to fix my gas tank leak. They would have paid about $10,000 out of $15,000. I figure a good rule of thumb is one insurance collection per 20 flights. Re: Lowering insurance costs - Sovek - 19-10-2006 if you think thats bad, Im paying %11, trust me, it aint good. Re: Lowering insurance costs - c210 - 19-10-2006 First I tried a flight in Sudan with my brand new Aeroworx BE200. On the first flight I lost the left motor, hydro and electrics. Bill was 3.5 bar for a 5 bar airraft. So essentially a writeoff. Got 2 bar when I sold it. Then thought I buy a Captain Sim C130 and use that instead. First flight on this aircraft (7000 hrs on the hobbs) I lost the hydrolics, vacuum and some other stuff. Bill is 5 bar. So she stands at Juba in Sudan now since I cannot repair or fly it out so will wait till I make money again with my 737 800 in South Africa ![]() Re: Lowering insurance costs - Ceemosp - 21-10-2006 Well.....if you get this => -You made a successful belly landing. (+250) There was a problem aboard and you declared an emergency. (+150) You landed at the scheduled airport. (+30) Precise arrival time at destination.(-00h02:19 difference) (+100) A serious problem occurred during flight but you landed safely, nice job. (+1000) right after buying an additional plane you have to bite the bullet and take insurance money ![]() Greetz Carsten Re: Lowering insurance costs - BenG - 21-10-2006 Quote:c210 wrote: Whatfailure rate/settings did you use? I want to select a reasonable rate/chance where there's a little bit of a challenge but not every flight. Re: Lowering insurance costs - c210 - 21-10-2006 4% failure rate but the warzone in Sudan gives a 30% chance of them shooting at you. I got shot at on each flight sofar, takeoff and landings!!!! |
