NTDLL.DLL crash when FSPassengers module enabled - teofilo - 15-02-2017

Hi guys!

I have an issue in Prepar3d V 3.4 where on flights above 8 hours I always get a crash to desktop (not a VAS crash) and says that Prepar3d had to quit.
I disabled FSPassengers on the dll.xml file and I was able to complete the flight above 8 hours without any crashes.
As soon as I add it again, I get the crash so there is something seriously wrong with FSP and Prepar3d 3.4. I am using the latest Hotfix 3.

If I don't have FSP enabled I don't get a crash, tested on 3 flights, diferent destinations.

Here is the Appcrash view:

RE: NTDLL.DLL crash when FSPassengers module enabled - Joeflyer - 15-02-2017

Dan would have to look at this IF in fact it's a FsP problem. So far we haven't seen threads pouring in that FsP is actually causing P3D to crash. Usually the problem is a Windows issue or other heavy addons that help trigger the crashes. So, what addons are you using along with FsP? What are your P3D settings?

Based on what I have seen on the P3D forums, others have OOM, VAS issues when making long trips over 5 hours. Not necessarily FsP related but likely a combination of things that help to trigger a crash. I recently did a full install of 3.4.22 but haven't had a chance to try a long haul flight, but I have performed a few 2 hour flights without issues. Once I can get the Captain Sim 777 installed, I will see if I can produce a system crash. Currently on a work trip, so I won't be able to do this until the weekend.

RE: NTDLL.DLL crash when FSPassengers module enabled - teofilo - 16-02-2017

Hi Joe,
Good evening.
I am using AS2016 + ASCA, ORBX Global, PMDG 777 on P3D 3.4 with latest hotfix 3.
My computer is an i7 4770, 16GB RAM, SSD HD, Windows 10 Pro.

I did the same flight with FSP on and disabled in the dll.xml.
With FSP running I got a crash at some point after 7 hours. Without the FSP loaded into P3D I never got a crash on the same flight, same aircraft, everything is the same.
My VAS monitor showed 71% at the moment of the crash.
I also tried another long route, same issue, same outcome.
Definitely there is something going on with FSP that is causing the crash and it's not even OOM, it's something else.. the error is the same, P3D found an error and needs to close, etc... then on the logs, the ntdll.dll error.
No overclock, etc. I see it only happens when FSP is running in the background for long flights.. on short (less than 5 hrs) nothing happens and everything works well.
Hope this gives you enough info.

Teo

RE: NTDLL.DLL crash when FSPassengers module enabled - Joeflyer - 18-02-2017

Teo, thanks for the information Smile You didn't mention anything about your P3D settings. Are they still on default or do you have most sliders to the right of default? Also, are all of your hardware drivers up to date? When people have the ntdll.dll errors, it's usually driver related. Overclocking the CPU can certainly create the error as well but you have squashed that possibility.

At this point I can't really point to FsP as the problem...even though some of your flights it would appear to be the problem. I mention this because FsP doesn't create much "overhead" at all in terms of graphics, VAS usage, etc. There is usually one underlying issue that hasn't been uncovered until it is uncovered...via methodical steps to get there. Let me ask this. Are you using the mini display throughout the flight until the sim crashes?

Hi Joe,

All drivers up to date and it has happened with previous versions of FSP as well on Prepar3d. Also happens with the PMDG 737 after 6-7 hours.
Prepar3d sliders are almost all to max, except Level of detail, cloud distance, autogen which is set in the middle, etc. As I mentioned the VAS indicator from the projectFLY pilot tools show 71% VAS usage at the time of the crash.
Minidisplay is closed usually. I open it and close it throughout the flight so it's not necesarily showing on the screen at the time of the crash.

Regards,
Teo

RE: NTDLL.DLL crash when FSPassengers module enabled - Joeflyer - 18-02-2017

Thanks Teo. I think we are getting somewhere now. Please do this....the sliders that are near max, reduce them a notch and then try another flight. If you still get a crash, reduce the sliders once more and try another flight. No matter how good your pc may seem, things can still go wacky with P3D even with the best of systems out there.

Hi Joe,

Flying right now with the sliders down a notch.
Will let you know how it goes. 5 hours down, 6 hours to go... hope I don't get the ntdll.dll crash... the worst thing is that I need to wait the 7 hours to see if it works or not... so not a quick test that I can do.
Will keep you posted.

Teo

RE: NTDLL.DLL crash when FSPassengers module enabled - Joeflyer - 19-02-2017

Thanks for the update, Teo. You posted this 5 hours ago, so I hope this may have helped. I just completed 4 hours with the QW 757 with middle of the road settings. Haven't installed any heavy addon aircraft yet. So far so good with AS2016, 2048 resolution textures in P3D, Nvidia DSR set at 1.5x native resolution, FS Global for FTX, FTX Global and FTX trees. Have had very smooth frame rates and not a hint of a sim crash. My system is 4 years old and can handle 3.422 quite well. I'm shocked! That old i7 2600K OC'd to 4.6 Ghz has been running hard for 4 yrs. It has been a superb chip.

RE: NTDLL.DLL crash when FSPassengers module enabled - teofilo - 19-02-2017

Hi Joe,

I have to report that lowering the settings made the sim run better but I still got a crash after 10 hours of flight. So I went and lowered the P3D a bit more and updated to the latest Nvidia driver without VAS issues.. Now I need to fly it again.. but I wonder why it crashes.. no high VAS, etc, just a random crash and the NTDLL.DLL error.. strange.. but I can tell you that lowering the quality a notch helped me fly 2 hours more. So now I lowered them even more.. It seems to have to do with time. Usually flights lower than 6hrs I can fly perfectly at max settings.

RE: NTDLL.DLL crash when FSPassengers module enabled - Joeflyer - 19-02-2017

This is encouraging news, Teo. I don't know what your ultimate goal is for long haul flights, but as far as FsP is concerned, anything over 1,300 NM has diminishing returns with regards to profit for your company....unless it is a cargo only flight.
At any rate, when you updated to 3.422, did you update the Client only or did you do a full uninstall and re-install? If you installed the Client only, did you delete shaders and possibly the P3D.cfg to let P3D rebuild them? P3D is quite demanding even on the best of systems...as stated previously. When you are flying high and long distances, it is likely best to turn down the scenery sliders (autogen, vegetation, etc) and anything else that indicates higher settings may cause performance issues. If you reset to default settings, that alone may give you more mileage on your system. NTDLL.dll issues are usually graphics related anyway. So, there are always going to be trade offs with P3D.
