How much startup money is really needed? - briansommers - 26-09-2016

If I want to start a small one man aircharter company with a small plane, say a C182 or similar. How much money would I really need?

The cost for the 182 and anything else?

I'm assuming here that I've gone to school and got my required licences and ratings.

Would I need something like $300k or more like  500k and then some?

500k is plenty usually, it is harder to make money at the start so you want some left over to use.

That's really a tough one...depending on which country you are planning to operate in. Planning on buying or leasing the aircraft? Have you done your homework on the area in which you would like to set up a small charter? 500k might be on the low end of a start-up if you plan to buy a new 182 or one that doesn't have alot of time on it. There is so much else to consider beyond buying or leasing an aircraft. Much research on your part needs to be done.
